To use the almanac, encyclopedia
and atlas in gathering relevant
information
ALMANAC
• An annual publication that includes information
like weather forecasts, farmers' planting dates,
tide tables, and other tabular data often arranged
according to the calendar.
• Celestial figures and various statistics are found
in almanacs, such as the rising and setting times
of the Sun and Moon, dates of eclipses, hours of
high and low tides, and religious festivals.
• The information are not arranged in order, table
of contents and index are needed to use.
Most widely used almanacs:
• Guinness Book of World Records
• Information Please Almanacs
• World Almanac and Book of Facts
• World Book Science Yearbook
ATLAS
• A reference book that contains
many large, detailed maps of the
worlds.
• It also contains other sources of
geographical information, such as
statistics about population,
temperatures, oceans and
deserts.
Some reliable atlases:
• Atlas of World History
• The Britannica Atlas
• Collier’s World Atlas
• National Geographic Atlas of the World
• The Times Atlas of the World
ENCYCLOPEDIA
• It contains general articles on nearly every
known subject.
• This information is organized alphabetically
into volumes.
• There are guide words at the top of each
page to help you find information.
• Each set of encyclopedia has an index,
which you should check before looking for
your information

• Collier’s Encyclopedia (24 volumes)
• Encyclopedia Britannica (29 volumes)
• Encyclopedia Americana (30 volumes)
• World Book Encyclopedia (22 volumes)
