MICROSTRIP LINE

PARAMETER CALCULATION
From D.M. Pozar 4th Edition (p.p 149)
STEP 1

Refer to equation 3.197

Then, make an initial guess whether to choose W/d < 2 or W/d >2 ?

Lets say, we choose W/d < 2, so solve below equation:

Solve for :

You will get :

Enter this value A to e.q 3.197 for W/d < 2, you will get :

Test your answer. You can conclude that condition W/d < 2 is satisfied

** If your answer fail to satisfied W/d < 2, then you have to use expression for
W/d > 2
STEP 2

Since the condition is satisfied :

So, W = 0.9654 d, where d is the substrate’s thickness (d = 0.5mm), hence

W = 0.9654 x 0.5 mm,

W = 0.483 mm.

STEP 3

Find the effective permittivity constant using e.q 3.195

You will get,

STEP 4

Find the line length correspond to phase shift of 270 deg

Remember, propagation constant is:

Phase = length x propagation constant
