SYSTEM
Definition: the system that concerns with
digestion of the food into nutrients.

digestion, chemical digestion)

Structure:

1.Alimentary canal
2.accessary organs
The Alimentary canal components

1. The mouth.
2. Esophagus.
3. Stomach.
4. Small intestine.
5. Large intestine.
6. The Anus.

The Accessary organs:

(Salivary glands, Liver, Pancreas, Gall Bladder).
LOCATION OF THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

It extends from the head and neck, chest, abdomen, and pelvis.

Mostly in the abdomen inside the peritoneal sac.

Hanged of the posterior wall by double layer of peritoneum called Mesentery.

Another double layer falls from stomach and transverse colon down the anterior abdominal wall
like an apron called The Omentum.

This has a vital function to protect the viscera against infection spread.
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM CONSTITUENTS

The mouth: it is the opening entrance to the canal.

The esophagus: It is a muscle tube that forms an important
part of the digestive system and connects the pharynx and
stomach. Its main function is to transport ingested and
partially digested food from the mouth to the stomach.
The stomach: It is an essential organ of the digestive system and is located on the left in the upper
abdomen area of the body.

The small intestine: The most important part of the digestive system that works to disassemble and
absorb food compounds, which is the part of the intestine that lies between the stomach and the large
intestine ending with the anus
THE ACCESSORY ORGAN OF DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

The Salivary glands:are three (parotid gland, submandibular gland, sublingual gland). Located in

the head region.

The Liver: is a big solid organ located at the upper right quadrant of the abdomen.

The Gall Bladder: is an oval hollow muscular membranous sac located below the willow at the
bottom of the anterior area of the pelvis and consists of tissue

The Pancreas: It is the largest internal organ and the largest gland in the human body. A normal
liver weighs about 1.2 to 1.5 kg and performs the functions of the endocrine and ductal glands.
