PLATE BOUNDARIES

Van Denver E. Bautista

OBJECTIVES:

1. Discuss the three types of plate

boundaries.
2. Have a recap.
3. Watch a video regarding plate
boundaries.
4. Answer 5 multiple choice questions.
PLATE BOUNDARIES

Three types:
➔ Divergent
➔ Convergent
➔ Transform
What is a divergent plate
boundary?

It happens when two tectonic plates

move away from each other.

In this boundary earthquakes are
common. An example of this, is when
magma rises from the mantle to the
earth’s surface causing it to create a
new oceanic crust.

CONVERGENT BOUNDARY
When two plates come together.
MORE INFORMATION:
■ When two plates collide it may result
into mountain ranges or when the edge
of the plates go down due to a process
called”subduction”it will turn into a
deep seafloor trench.
■ Continental crust is created while
oceanic crust is destroyed.

WHAT IS TRANSFORM
BOUNDARY?
■ When two tectonic
plates slide along
each other.
■ The scraping of
two plates causes
an earthquake. CREDITS:

TRANSFORM BOUNDARY
- Also called conservative boundary.
The fracture zone that forms a
transform boundary is called a
transform fault.
The most famous example of this is
the San Andreas Fault zone of
Western North America.
