Bullying?
Bullying is when people
repeatedly and intentionally
use words or actions
against someone or a group
of people that intends to
cause physical, social and
psychological harm.
These actions are usually
done by people who have
more influence or power
over someone else, or who
want to make someone else
feel less powerful or
helpless.
Bullying has three main features:

Government of India in order to stop bullying has enacted a regulation called “UGC Regulations
on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Education Institutions, 2009” which has been
applied to all the colleges or higher education institutions.

The objective of the regulation clearly states :

“toeliminate ragging in all its forms from universities, deemed


universities and other higher education institutions in the country by
prohibiting it under regulations, preventing its occurrence and punishing
those who indulge in ragging as provided for in the regulations and the
appropriate law in force”.

° Victims of bullying don’t ask for help because:
(a) They think there are no rules or policies that can help eradicate this issue.
(b) They fear that if they complain about the bully, it might provoke even more bullying.

° Minimal role of school/university/workplace administration.

° Awareness campaigns and seminars
° Parenting and counseling

• Set clear and enforceable rules and expectations - Age-
appropriate rules allow a student to know what
behavior is expected.
• Have open communication - Communication is key to
building rapport.
• Adequate reporting systems – timely reporting of an
incident may help save the victim.
• Awareness among students and employees about cyber
bullying laws and policies – seminars, lectures etc.
