TOOLS
UNPACKING AND INSPECTION
• Recommended Tools
• Wire strippers
• Cable ties
• Test handset
• Screwdrivers (Phillips head and slotted)
• Wire wrap tool
• Punch down tool (for cross-connections)
• Voltmeter
• Switchboard wiring (#22 AWG [0.643 mm diameter] or #24 AWG [0.511 mm diameter])
• Power wiring (2 lengths, red and black, solid #18 AWG or 1.02 mm diameter preferred)
• Quiet ground wire, stranded, insulated, green (#12 AWG or 2.05 mm diameter [preferred], #18 AWG or
1.02 mm diameter [minimum])
• Chassis (frame) ground wire, stranded, insulated, green (#12 AWG or 2.05 mm diameter [preferred],
#18 AWG or 1.02 mm diameter [minimum])
• Grounding Strap
• Communications cabling – Serial Craft Cable (PC to Craft Port)
• Note: As connections are made, be sure to route all wiring across the front of the DigiTest
EDGE and then along the side. The notch in the mounting ear has a protective plastic guard over
which the wires are routed. The side of the DigiTest EDGE chassis has special lances to which
the cables can be attached using the wire ties provided in the accessory kit.
• Wiring the Access Server Ports
• Four asynchronous ports are configured independently
• Specifications of the ports are:
• Connection Type: RJ-45 connector
• Signals: GND, TX, RX, DTR, DCD, DSR, RTS, and CTS (Pins 1-8, respectively. Facing the
connector, pin 1 is on the right side.)
• Baud Rates: 300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200 (default), 38400, 57600, and 115200
• Protection: ESD protection circuitry and EMI filters
• Data Bits: 7 or 8
•• Stop Bits 1, 1.5, or 2
Parity None, Odd, Mark, Even, or Space
• Connect the desired EDGE Serial Port to the desired serial device, routing the
cables across the front of the EDGE
• PINOUTS
• Wiring the DigiTest EDGE Serial port to
the ASAM DB-9 Serial Port
• Route the cables across the front and then along the side of the DigiTest EDGE
• For use of the EDGE TAP 1, the following pinout needs to be followed:
2 R (Silkscreen Label)
• Configuration Prerequisites
• Terminal Emulation
• Craft Terminal Configuration Settings:
• Control: Asynchronous control with hardware handshaking (DTR control)
• Baud Rate: 38,400
• Parity: None
• Data Bits: 8
• Stop Bits: 1
• CLI command prompt is: RAC>
• The DigiTest EDGE must be properly configured using a Craft Interface Device (CID) connected directly to
the Craft interface of the test platform. CIDs include a VT100 (or similar) ASCII terminal or a PC using a
terminal emulation program such as HyperTerminal
• The CLI includes a variety of commands that not only configure the DigiTest EDGE, but also perform set-up,
installation verification, and commissioning functions.
• Security Access Levels:
• Access to the Command Line Interface (CLI) is limited to users who have a valid login password
• Craft or Supervisor
• The craft password offers a subset of the functions of the supervisor.
• Use the ADD command to add entries to the router table. Any
number of router table entries may be created, but only four
may be created for serial ports 1 through 4. Note that these
four special ports are also shown in the PORT submenu as
DSLAM1, DSLAM2, DSLAM3, and DSLAM4 by default.
• To delete an entry in the router table, use the DELETE
command.
• To change an entry in the router table, use the MODIFY
command.
• Using the GATEWAY command, enter the IP address of the gateway device.
• To specify the subnet mask, begin by logging in to the DigiTest EDGE at a supervisor level.
• From the RAC> prompt of the Command Line Interface (CLI), use the ROUTER command to access the Router Menu.
• From the RAC:CAL> prompt, type the CALIB or CALINT command. This forces the DigiTest EDGE
to perform a calibration function.
• Installation/provisioning personnel should not reset calibration reference values.
• To display the results of the calibration, use the STATUS command.
• Diagnostic LED’s
• DigiTest EDGE has four tri-color
diagnostic LEDs that provide visual
indication of the test platform’s overall
status, enabling simple troubleshooting
by a technician.
• Each LED can assume a green, amber,
or red color in either a steady or blinking
state.
Troubleshooting Matrix
Installation
• Ground Connections
• There are three separate Ground connections on the
• TELACCORD 1000 chassis. They are CHASSIS, FRAME, and
GND.
• Chassis Ground
• This connection pad is located near spin wrap posts
labeled FRAME for protective ground connections. This
allows users to tie grounds together if this is their standard
practice.
• Frame (Protective Ground) Connection
• This is the ground providing a return path for all second
level surge protection.
• The spin wrap posts provided are located on the bottom pin
field (TO CENTRAL OFFICE) labeled FRAME.
• The user should connect using a minimum of #18 AWG
solid wire and spin wrap to post using 6 or more wraps.
• “GND” Ground Connection
• This Ground is for the office battery common for unit power.
• This is located on the TCC and MCC 5-pin spin wrap
connections.
• TAP Connections:
• The TCC provides connections to the Tip and Ring of TAP number 1. A spin-wrap connector is provided on
the TCC for this purpose.
• Connector pin designations are indicated by the silkscreen under the pin for the Tip and Ring connections
from the test head.
• Connection for the communications cable is provided by a 40-pin male ribbon connector, P6. Install the
communications cable (supplied with the accessory kit) in P6 with the “key” on the fifth keyed, 40-pin
female connector at the bottom, and the ribbon cable exiting from the top of the connector.
• Craft
• The Craft port is used to receive the TL1 messages.
• Connect an RJ-45 male connector in to J9 of the TCC. The
• following parameters are used.
• Baud rate: 19,200; Data bits: 8; Parity: None; Stop bits: 1
