Oral Presentation (Viva Voice)

 The Final Presentation will be on the 8th week


of term III. (presentation for 1st and 2nd term will
also be in the 8th week of each term)
 The main objective of the final presentation is to
review the project work of the student critically.
 As well as to give him/her an opportunity to
present his/her project work to a panel of staff
members and other students in a logical and
comprehensible manner.

Oral Presentation (Viva-Voice)
 At the beginning of each presentation, the student will
be expected to make it clear to the audience the
following:
 Problem Statement of the Research
 Objectives of the Research
 Methodology used in the Research
 Project Scope or Amount of Work agreed upon him/herself
and the supervisor
 Project Justification or Relevance to Society
 Student Research Contribution
 The main presentation will take 10-15min and question
time 5-10min.

What the Examiners will Look 4?

 Originality of the Investigations or


Idea including the following:
 If the aim or objectives of the project was clearly defined and
understood by the student and met at the end
 If the hypothesis/theory, questions and appropriate methods
developed were properly tested and adequately described/used.
 If the scope of the current project with regard to previous works and
topics were contrasted
 If the originality, quantity and quality of the current project are clear
 If the student was able to demonstrate independent thinking,
generation of options and showing competence in executing his/her
project.

 The Final Project Assessment is made


up of two (2) components as follows:

 Actual Project 80%


 Industrial Training 20%
 Total 100%

 Report – 45% (2 Hard-Bound copies +

Final Year Project Failure…

 Is it possible to fail a Project? YES


 However, it should be noted that
students who fail to meet their Project
and/or Industrial Attachment
requirements may either be given a
Supplementary or a Repeat Course or
Incomplete for their Project depending
on individual circumstances.

Submission of Project Report
 Final year students must submit three (3)
copies of their project report.
 One (1) of which may be spiral bound to be
retained by the department
 And the other two (2), should be hard cover
bound, one of which will be given to the
University Library and the other copy to the
project supervisor/department.

Submission of Project Paper
 All students are required to summarize
their research work finding into a paper for
possible publication in:
 The Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)
journal or
 The Institute of Electrical, Electronic Engineers
(IEEE) journal or
 The Institute of Engineering & Technology
(IET) journal .
 Check the EIZ magazine for paper guidelines.

Submission of Project Paper
 All papers must be submitted in both hard
and soft copies to their respective projects
supervisor.
 One Soft Copy of the paper and the project
report should be submitted to the Projects
Coordinator for departmental achieving.
 All Soft Copies (CDs) should be clearly
labeled with names and project title and year
and attached to the Hard-bound reports.

Submission of Project Report

 The Final report must be submitted in its


final form to the Project Coordinator,
with the Supervisor’s signature.
 Upon submission of your report, the
Project will have to give you a receipt as
evidence of submission.

Project Report Format
 The following general guidelines may
assist the student in the preparation for
dissertation presentation:
 Title Page: You will be required to reproduce the
cover page by inserting your name(s) as the author,
project title and year of the report. This is shown in
specimen 1.
 The paper to be used shall be of international size A4
(210 mm by 297). Margins of 35mm at the left (for
binding) and 15mm at the right, top and bottom (for
appearance and trimming) must be left.

Project Report Format

 Only one side of the paper shall be used.


 The report should be type written; the normal
spacing between lines shall be one and half
(special illustrations may be hand written).
 All pages must be numbered consecutively
at the top right hand corner as described in
section in sections 9. 7 and 9.8.

report shall normally be as shown below:
 A cover containing the following (Centered)
 a) The Copperbelt University
 b) School of Engineering

Contact Hours with Supervisors

 It is a requirement that the students


report their progress to their Supervisors
at least once every week.
 Failure to which the student risks
failure of the project
 A minimum of 80% contact hours with
the Supervisor is required.

Prior presentation to the
Supervisor
 Students MUST show and demonstrate all their
works to their respective Supervisors at least a
week before the presentation date
 And the supervisor should approve the work to
be presented.
 A Presentation Authorization Form should be
signed by the Internal Supervisor and presented
to the panel before every presentation ( the
PAF forms will be provided by the coordinator)
