EMOSI:

• ‘thermometers’ kita adalah mengukurwhat is really going


on in and around us.
• are usually accompanied by bodily or physical changes,
such as an increased heartbeat or sweating.
• Emotions lead us: we are led by more than just reason
(thinking). When something happens or when we observe
something, we usually feel an emotion, then we think, and
then we act.
• Emotions can be recognised through facial expressions or
other physical reactions such as crying, shaking or body
posture.
• Emotions are necessary in order to live.

FEAR
Why is it useful?
Warning when danger approaches (I need to
escape or avoid a threat). Fear is
protection.
How to deal with it in a healthy way
 Shiver
 Find someone to be with,do not stay alone
 Ask for help
Fear is dysfunctional when aimed at the past.
Fear needs to be reassured

ANGER
Why is it useful?

Mobilisation of energy to make things change, confronting a


threat or attack

Three principal sources of anger: 1. Frustration 2. Intrusion on


my territory 3. My freedom is controlled

How to deal with it in a healthy way


A healthy way to express anger is to use your voice (shouting, etc.) but
respecting the following:
• Do not hurt anyone
• Do not hurt yourself
• Do not break anything
Accumulated anger comes out as guilt, anxiety, depression, so it is important
to express it as early as possible.
Functional anger solves problems.
Anger is dysfunctional when it’s useless violence
Anger needs to be respected

JOY
Why is it useful?
Joy shows an achievement or a success, allows you to share
with others and encourages validation.

How to deal with it in a healthy way


Important to anchor the positive experience which will help to
prepare and to feel confident about new future projects or
challenges.

 Accept and celebrate your achievement

 Be satisfied with your success and happiness

 Reflect on the steps which brought you joy

SADNESS
Why is it useful?

Sadness is a reaction to loss which helps us to eventually accept


what cannot be changed.
It is accompanied by retreating, being alone, and helps us to
restructure our lives after a loss.

How to deal with it in a healthy way


• To cry
• To say that you are feeling sad
• To receive physical comfort (a hug from someone)

Sadness is dysfunctional when turned towards the future.


Sadness needs to be comforted

It is important to be aware of the
following:
 Whatever the emotions are, they are normal and useful.

 They come and go. All emotions pass in time; this is their
nature.

 Never be afraid or ashamed of your emotions. Things will


change and you can move on if you so choose.

 It is extremely important to wait before reacting: emotional


intensity reduces over time and you should not act “on the
emotion”.

 First recognize it, acknowledge it (no denial), accept and


express it (no repression). Any uncomfortable feeling is
related to an unmet need. Accept it without trying to analyze
it initially, then try to relate it to the unmet basic need. Then
finally express the underlying request which is at the root of
the emotion.
