This document discusses an experimental analysis of polypropylene fibre reinforced composite seals for pump applications. The project aims to investigate mechanical properties such as strength, fatigue, shear and thermal stresses of composite seals as compared to conventional metal seals. Composite materials offer benefits like weight reduction, high strength to weight ratio, and being non-abrasive. The proposed work includes modeling the composite, analyzing its various mechanical properties, and comparing it to steel. The goal is to determine if composite seals are a viable, economical replacement for metal seals in pumps.

EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSIS AND INVESTIGATION OF VARIOUS
MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF POLYPROPYLENE FIBRE REINFORCED
COMPOSITE SEALS FOR PUMP APPLICATIONS ABSTRACT
In order to conserve natural resources and economize energy,
weight reduction has been the main focus of machine parts manufacturers in the present scenario. Weight reduction can be achieved primarily by the introduction of better material, design optimization and better manufacturing processes. The polypropylene fibre reinforced composite is one of the potential items for weight reduction and leak proof. The introduction of composite materials was made it possible to reduce the weight without any reduction on load carrying capacity, more elastic strain energy storage capacity and high strength to weight ratio as compared with those of steel. The objective of this project is to investigate various mechanical properties such as strength, fatigue, shear and thermal stresses.. NEED OF THE PROJECT
• Conventional metals having more weight.
• Less leak proof
• Metal seal React with water & oil
• High material cost
• Manufacturing process polluting the environment. • Abrasive to machines & Non renewable. • Manufacturing time and cost is more. COMPOSITE MATERIALS
Composite materials, often shortened to composites or called
composition materials, are engineered or naturally occurring materials made from two or more constituent materials with significantly different physical or chemical properties which remain separate and distinct within the finished structure. A common example of a composite would be disc brake pads, which consist of hard ceramic particles embedded in soft metal matrix. ADVANTAGES OF THE PROJECT
• Polypropylene reinforced composite are non-abrasive to machines,
renewable, bio-degradable. • Low cost
• Acceptable mechanical properties.
• The achievement of weight reduction with adequate improvement
of mechanical properties • Composite a very replacement material for conventional steel & other metal seal. • More economical PROPOSED WORK
