Project Background

Organizations of all sizes collect and store increasing

volumes of data, the question of how to convert this
data into a competitive advantage moves to the
forefront. Increasingly, business professionals are turning
to BI tools
We are already using BI tool known as OBI , in our
organization to fulfill this requirement. Following slide
will show our process to capture data popularly known
as ETL process.
Overview of ETL Process
• Data pushing from LIVE sites.
• Data Pulling into a Staging Area.
• Pushing the centralized MIS data
to OBIEE server.
• View OBIEE Dashboard.
Data pushing from LIVE sites
• Day 1
• At all respective sites, a job runs at
on the database/support machine.
• Job pushes data from Transaction
tables into MIS tables.
• Email notification, with log file, is
sent to HO after job completion.
• Database Export is taken and
uploaded to Web space (HQ Server).
Data Pulling into a Staging Area
• Day 2
• Unzip and Import the dump
• Pull the MIS data into Staging Area
• Push the MIS data into OBIEE server

Objective
Now that we have already implemented OBI and it
is being used by almost all the sites to verify their
data and MIS team at HO to check Delta, RM
Stock, FG stock, customer outstanding at site
level, segment level or IVL level etc.
So there is a need to locally visualize and analyze
this rich data of OBI for local ad-hoc process.
To fulfill this requirement we are introducing a
new tool at local level to perform this activity.
Why Tableau
You can create visuals quickly and switch between types easily to
find the model that best represents your message.

Tableau defaults are based on best practices, so your initial result

contains good color combinations and layout.

The user interface is well-organized so you can customize the

view with a few clicks vs. multiple menus, etc.

It gives those with an analytical mindset the ability to analyze

data without having to navigate technical obstacles such as SQL,
coding, etc.
Source
Generate CSV file
exported directly
from our present
ETL program for
OBI. The CSV file
will be for sales
data, Order data,
Customer ageing,
FG Stock
Methodology and Strategy
CSV for each unit
will be Extracted
and granted access
to the respective
site users , Such
that everyday at
scheduled time it
will be synched to
the user laptop/PC.

These csv are used to create different reports at

Tableau. Tableau is a data visualization tool that is
being used nowadays, the beautiful feature of this tool
is that it can be used by any non IT person to make
meaningful Data visualization in not much time as
required by Excel or any other tool. Creating different
Graphs and Data presentation is much easier in
Tableau, and its capabilities are beyond Excel reach.
Below are some of the reports
