Caption

Is a short piece of text under a picture that


describes or explains what it is about
Jika sebuah gambar tidak dijelaskan
maka akan menjadi ambigu dan
menimbulkan kesalahpahaman.

A picture without description will make


ambiguity and misunderstanding
Remember!!
Captions should be:

1. Clear

2. Short

3. Relevant

4. Contextual

5. Interesting
Language Features

– Using present tense to describe action in a picture or photo (even we took the picture in the past).
– Don’t use “a”, “an”, or “the”.
– When identify members of group, write “from left”, not “from left to right”.
– Do not use “above” or “picture here”.
– Do not begin the caption with names. The name of people can be mentioned if they are important to
the picture.
– When we took a picture, we need to put the person who took it. (eg: Taken by:…, Credit to:….)
– A caption should complete the picture. Make your caption attracts the reader to read the article.
Special for Quotes:

When writing a quote, you should write the


writer’s name because it is a basic rule in
journalism and scientific field.
