What is dance?

 Dance is the expression of the soul through bodily

movement. The movements are reflections of repressed
emotions, emotions that can't come to light through our
five senses or verbally.
 It can be categorized and described by its choreography, by
its movements, or by its historical period or place of origin.
Tradicional and folk dances

 Tradicional and folk dances are born as a result of popular culture. They are a very
important part of our ethnographic wealth. Some examples are: flamenco, tango, son,
danzon and cumbia.

Classical dance

 We can identify this kind of dance because the dancers make light , harmonious and
coordinated movements.
 One example of the classical dance is the ballet.

Modern dance

 Modern dance encourages dancers to use their

emotions and moods to design their own steps and
routines. It is not unusual for dancers to invent
new steps for their routines, instead of following a
structured code of technique, as in ballet.
 Examples: breakdance, funky, moonwalk and
popping.
