INTRODUCTION TO TOK
TOK provide us with an opportunity to explore and reflect on the nature of
knowledge and process of knowing.
Curriculum: is made up of three deeply interconnected parts
The Core Theme: Knowledge and the knower
Option Theme: Knowledge and Technology, Knowledge and language,
knowledge and politics, knowledge and religion and knowledge and
indigenous societies. ( select only 2)
Areas of knowledge: history, Human Science, Natural science, Mathematics
and arts. – All five are compulsory

FRAMEWORK
Four elements:
Scope: Focuses on exploring the nature scope of the
different themes and AOK
Perspectives: Focuses on the importance of influence of
perspectives and context. Historical perspectives and how
knowledge changes over time
Methods and tools: Focuses on methods, tools and practices
that use to produce knowledge
Ethics: Focuses on ethical considerations that impact inquiry
in the different themes/AOK

ASSESSMENTS

The TOK exhibition: marked by the teacher and


externally moderated by IB

The TOK Essay: max 1600 words.
