Kickers/Freebies
As you can see I have used the text style
from the anchorage and applied it onto my
kickers, the effect of this is to keep my house
style constant throughout my magazine. But I
have also used it to try to relate to the
audience. Different fonts attracts different
kinds of audience for example; if I used a
posh font the chances are it would attract the
upper class. And if I used a cartoon font it Flash
would attract anime fans. So therefore I have I’ve added another flash as seen but
used this font to attract the “Emo” social this flash is located at the bottom of
group or so you could say. my magazine near my selling line.
I’ve used the font from the mast head
Also you can see I’m advertising a free to make it stand out more. The
poster in the magazine of a popular band. The reason I have done this is to make
use of this is similar to the use of the flash on the flash stand out but it also tells the
the selling line. It is used to attract a certain reader about the online site and what
kind of social group. they can get out of it by going there.
I’ve used this to promote the site for
the magazine

Moving onto the head line and the anchorage. I have used the bands name alone for the
headline to attract the readers whom are a fan of this band. But threes a catch if that
didn’t interest them the anchorage will. It mentions about the bands split-up. This will
definitely attract the fans attention thus this will definitely make any true fan buy this
magazine. And finally I have used a visual technique on the anchorage; if you look
closely then the words “the breakup” are falling apart the same as the band. I’ve used
this to promote the article.

Subscription Box
I’ve added a subscription box onto my magazine this is to promote
another offer that the user gets if they subscribe to the magazine weekly.
This is another form of a freebie by offering them the chance to save on
money they are more tempted to buy a subscription. The use of this
technique will get me more subscriptions but at a cost of a profit loss.
Also since I have given the readers the chance to save money I
promoted all future magazines, and using words like “One-off”
persuades them to buy the subscription for a cheaper price than buying
it later on and losing the discount. The end result of this is more
magazine sales.
Title
Whereas for the title as you can see I have used the same colours,
font and effects as the mast head. This is to project a constant house
style throughout my magazine but in fact there is another reason
I’ve been using the colour red throughout my magazine; the reason
I’ve been using the colour red is because red relates to the colour
blood and blood is one of the stereotypes that falls under the “Emo”
social group. I used the colour red not to relate to a “Emo” but in
fact I used it to defend them. People assume things about Emos such
as they slit there wrists worship satin. All these are wrong Emo isn't
death or depression it’s a music style.

Editorial
I added an editorial onto the contents to give the reader an idea in what this weeks
magazine will be about. But I use slang throughout this article. The reason I have
done this is so that I can connect to the readers of Muzix more and so the article
looks more friendly rather than formal.
I have tried to make this article as persuasive as possible using such words as
“Juiciest”, “Chaos” and “Sheer truth”, all these attract the audience and bring up the
magazine sales.
And finally the other reason I used slang is to promote future magazines, if the
editorial can connect to the user the chances are they will pick up the next issue
therefore it is promoting future copies.

Index
Depending on how persuasive the index page is can make a magazine or
break a magazine. The index is the most cruel part of the contents page so
therefore I have made mine as attractive as possible using two colours that
compliment each other and using titles that can attract the readers eye.
The effect of using a black background and yellow text catches the eye of
the reader then the titles of the articles can make a sale. Also you can see
I’ve used corroded text for the heading and a boring formal text for the
titles. I’ve done this so that it doesn't look unprofessional and the reader can
read the titles.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
Headline
I made the headline colour clash with the background so it stood out more. I
also increased the size of the headline so it stands out from the rest of the
article. I have done this so It can catch the readers eye.
The effect of this is that since I’ve used the album name and words such as
“Chaos” it makes the reader want to read the article thus making them buy it
the magazine and boosting the sales.
Track list
I added a track list onto my double page
spread mainly because my article is about the
upcoming release of a album. The reason I’ve
added a track list is to give the reader a sneak
peak of some of the songs that will be on the
album, but I also added it so they know what
the article is going to be about.
Firstly Throughout my magazine I have used certain fonts to attract my a certain kind of social group and that social group has
the tag “Emo”. Emo’s tend to listen to heavy metal or “Screamo” so therefore I have only added bands whom fall under that
categories of music. My magazine is to represent Emo’s and how they are being a target by stereotypical people every day.
To show that my magazine is to represent Emo’s I have used a corroded kind of font and the colours black and white. The main
reason I've used these colours is to show what the main stereotype related to “Emo” is. The most common stereotypes related to
Emo's and that would be the colour black and how it represent darkness and hate so therefore I thought I should also use the
colour back throughout my magazine to relate to the “Emo” social group
How does your media product represent particular social
groups?
As you can see the colours I’ve used mainly are black or
white. As I said in the previous paragraph black is a
stereotype towards Emo’s. But I did include the white
so that it contributes the genre of the magazine.
How does your media product represent particular social
groups?
Language
One of the most crucial parts used to represent my
social groups is language, how the articles are
written. I could have went with a very formal text
piece using proper spellings and punctuation. But
instead I’ve tried to write my articles in a way that
it will relate to my target audience.
I’ve looked at several different kinds of music industries whom could distribute my magazine such as; IPC Media, Dennis
Publishing, Bauer Media and Future Publishing. But I had to keep in mind I will not get distributed by one of these
companies if my magazine rivals another they are distributing.
First I looked at Bauer media, I found out they where a successful company with a lot of money whom could help me
publish my magazine but I then found out that they are already distributing Kerrang which clashes with my magazine so
therefore I had to choose another
After looking through the other magazines I noticed IPC Media only NME, Bass and Guitar. None of these magazines
would rival my magazine, so therefore I thought I would look at the key factors about this company such as; How
successful the company is, how much money they can supply and how big the company is.
IPC Media is one of the most successful magazine companies there is out there, and there rival is Bauer media, this is an
advantage for me because Bauer has Kerrang but IPC has no magazines to rival Kerrang and as I said above my
magazine is aimed at the same audience as Kerrang.
Also IPC has won such awards as “Consumer magazine of the year” which is an impressive award considering how
many of there magazines have won this award. So overall I think IPC Media would be the best choice to distribute my
magazine mainly because of how successful the business is therefore will increase my sales and readership.
Who would be the audience for your media product
Another way I have used to make sure my magazine will attract the
younger audience would be how I have used slang throughout the
magazine.
Slang is used mainly on the article; the effect of this is to make the
magazine less formal and more informal. If the magazine is
informal then it would tend to attract the younger audience. Also
the fact I use slang throughout my magazine projects that the
magazine is aimed towards a young audience in addition to relating
to the user on a friendly basis rather than the article being a big
block of text which doesn’t connect to the reader.
Who would be the audience for your media product
First off I needed my magazine to look young and fresh to attract my Moving onto layout. Layout is one of the key
desired audience and to do this I used a range of techniques such as components to attract my desired audience. The
layout design, colours, fonts and so on. layout is the magazine itself. I try to use the
layout to advertise all my magazine offers and
Starting off with my colour choices. I mainly used Black, White and what will be included in it.
Red. The main reason I used these three colours is to attract my
audience. The use of these three colours can attract/lure the younger For example on the first page I placed a poplar
audiences eyes once I have caught there attention they will notice bands name right in the middle. The use of this is
that the magazine relates to them via there music type and stories to attract the young audience whom would like
included in the article. that kind of music.
•Starting off with Photoshop, throughout this magazine project I had to use a software called “Photoshop” at first I wasn't very
experienced in using this software and had no idea how I would make a professional magazine on it. But as time passed I picked up a
lot of new techniques which will defiantly benefit me later on in life.
•Before I could use Photoshop I had to learn how to use a professional camera camera, after I learned how to use a professional
camera I then had to round up some models and take certain shots. This gave me insight to a photographers job but In all fairness
really like it so much.
•And finally for my evaluation I wanted to show a recording of the magazine being built layer by layer so I used a program called
“hyper cam”. This program allows you to select a part of your screen and record it for as long as you like. I think this piece of
software will come in great use when I progress to university.
Looking back at your preliminary task (the College
magazine), what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to full product?
But if you look at the music magazine you can see it has a
house style. The music magazine follows a consistent kind of
text/colour/layout through. I learnt from my mistakes on my
college magazine and made sure that my music magazine
followed a certain style throughout.
