Case Study of A Child Age 10

 Sensitive due to their newfound changes
 Distance from parents to create new identity
 Become closer with friends to share experiences and discover new

Physical  Could succumb to peer pressure to fit in

Developments  Sexual development needs to be addressed with the child


 Puberty begins to take form at the age of 12
 Wet dreams are the beginning stages of puberty
 Body hair begins to develop

10 Year old
physical  The 10 year old boy that I observed is taller than the rest of his
classmates. He is rarely interested in playing outside and now
development plays video games with his friends. Despite playing video games,
he is still active with running around the house or playing with

Upon observing the 10 year old child playing video games with
friends you can see them almost seeking each other’s approval

 Privacy: Giving the child some privacy with their friends. Since they
are in the stage where they are exploring new things along with
their friends they are shy and confide in one another
 Handling Emotions: As they grow they begin to understand what
emotions they are feeling and a parent should teach them how to
deal with it. Helping them understand why they are feeling that
way is an important key factor
Emotional  Showing Support and Warmth: They are not at the stage of
Development puberty just yet but they are confused and shy about this new

ones help them develop in a more healthier way.
 Discipline and rules: As they start questioning authority and begin
gaining independence it is still important to have them stay on the
right track. Parents should deliver discipline and rules in a way that
is not harsh but gets the point across to not drive the child away.

to question things with a clearer understanding

1o year old  My 10 year old brother has been interested in trying new things
when it comes to hobbies. He dabbles in some sports and
cognitive/intell activities but not as much. More into the artistic side such as
painting or creating crafts and learning about animals (a vet in the
ectual making?) His older brother, who is 12, is into sketching so that
characteristics could be an example of psychological tools being passed down.
 As they begin to explore new hobbies they could get distracted
easily so it is important for parents to help them keep on track

 Since they start looking up to their loved ones, it is important for
ectual those loved ones to set a good and healthy example. Such as

exercise.

about their self image. They are learning what works for them and

 As discussed before, the child begins to gain independence.
Therefore they would rather spend time with their friends more
than they usually would with their family.

they get rewarded. Resulting in the child to want to complete tasks

 My 10 year old brother mentioned he has a girlfriend when before
10 year old he would say ”girls are gross.” Other boys in his classroom have
psychosocial/social girlfriends and this could be an example of wanting to fit in and
new interests peaking. It is a sensitive subject and he shuts down
characteristics the conversation if he feels someone is being to inquisitive.
 Have the child understand how to be cautious of strangers, new
settings and what activities will be done with friends
 Show and tell them how much they mean to you and how proud
you are of their actions

 My 10 year old brother does joke around a lot but when it comes
10 year old down to being serious, he gets straight to business. When he sees
someone upset or emotional, he is still unsure of how to proceed
moral but will still offer whatever support he can in any way shape or
characteristics form. Can sometimes be a little rebellious but will still follow the
rules, he likes to push the boundaries and see how far he can get.
 As it was stated before, it is important that as the parent, we give
good examples regarding health, choices and hobbies as children
at that age (10) begin to look up to their loved ones
 Children are learning to figure out what is best for them and what
Moral/Character they are good at, recognition is important so they can gain that
confidence.
Developments
 Since they are experiencing new found changes they tend to get
