PERSONALITY & SOCIAL

WORK
WHAT IS HUMAN BEHAVIOR AND SOCIAL
ENVIRONMENT (HBSE)
• Is concerned w/ the material necessary for understanding the
client in his problem situation, the dynamics of individual and
group behavior, and of group and community process which
affects or influence the individual, the group and the
community.
WHAT IS BIOPSYCHOSOCIAL-SPIRITUAL BEING
• Means that there are inseparable, interacting forces-
biological, psychological, social and spiritual that
influence human behavior and personality.
INSEPARABLE INTERACTING FORCES IN
HUMAN BEING
1. Biological component– includes a person’s state of health and nutrition, genetics and natural
physical endowment. This likewise includes any deviation from normal social functioning such as illnesses
and physical disabilities.
2. Psychological component – is concerned with the person’s personality, comprising what is
commonly termed “inner state”. This has three aspects as follows:
1. Cognitive – this is the perceptual or intellectual part of the inner state. This is the one who think,
who perceive and process.
2. Emotional – this is the part of the inner state who usually dictates what and how to feel. The
immediate reaction of human being to abnormal situation is most of the time dictated by this part of
the inner state.
3. Conative – this is the striving tendency to do actively or purposefully. Other authors described this
aspect as the spiritual dimension of the component.
3. Social component – includes the following elements:
1) Institutional – this simply means the organizational arrangement in the society.
2) Status – this contains characteristics of persons and their position in the society as
seen in the way persons are described.
3) Normative – the forms in which social behavior are expressed, and the social
rules that shape these forms.
4) Interactive – this is the type of interaction and perception of interactions made
of self and others that serves as basis of behavior.

It is certainly true that the individual is a biopsychosocial-spiritual being.

It proves a common Filipino saying as “Ang sakit ng kalingkingan ay

ramdam ng buong katawan”
