Lesson Plan Script

Denise Juarez
Edu 214
Ms. Juarez: Good afternoon Students! I hope you all had a nice lunch and recess.
Students : Good afternoon!
Student 1: I liked the pizza we had for lunch.
Ms. Juarez: That sounds delicious, I love pizza.
Student 1 and Student 2: Me too!
Ms. Juarez: Now that everyone has gotten some yummy brain food, how about we
put those brains to work. How many of you have used these super fancy electrical
brains called computers?
Students: <Raise hands> <Resposes>
Ms. Juarez: Okay, okay, look at all those hands awesome!
Ms. Juarez: Now what does everyone usually use the computer for?
Yes, Student 1?
Student 1: I use it to watch slime videos on YouTube.
Ms. Juarez: Woah, there's a lot of those! Okay what about you Student
2?
Student 2: We’ve used it for our iReady Tests.
Ms. Juarez: Yes! That’s right, we do use them here at school for our
iReady tests. Awesome, I am glad we have all had some practice using
computers, because today we are going to use our Chromebooks for
something else. Communication. We can send messages to each other
about school business from our computers. This online messaging
service called EMAIL.
Ms. Juarez: Can everyone see the word on
the project screen?

Students: Yes

Ms. Juarez: Great. So email lets us

communicate with each other, this is great for
reaching out to Me, if say, you have a
question about something we learned today,
and it just can’t wait until we meet again. You
can email me, and I will be able to get your
“message” right away. You can also use it to
email your peers, If for example, you forget
what the homework was, you can email
Student 2, and ask ”Hey can you you tell me
what the homework was”. Pretty cool right?

Student 1: Yeah, its sort of like a text right?

Ms. Juarez: Yes, sort of, in that you are

sending a message that comes through right
away. Good job, using what you know and
making connections Student 1!
Ms. Juarez: Now class, I want you to think about when you talk to your teacher, do
you talk to me, and other teachers, the same way you talk to your friends at
home?
Students: No.
Ms. Juarez: That’s right, how would you ask me your teacher about something?
Yes, Student 3.
Student 3: I would say, Ms. Juarez can I borrow a pencil?
Ms. Juarez: Perfect, you are asking politely, and showing respect. Now what about
if you were going to ask your brother or sister or your friend? Yes, student 1.
Student 1: I would say, Martin gimme me a pencil.
Ms. Juarez: That’s right! Your words are laid back, casual. Does everyone see how
the way you talk to someone in a business (school business) setting is different
from when you talk to your close family and friends?
Students: Yes
Ms. Juarez: Awesome you guys are so smart. Now if you guys can
please take one of these email templates and pass the rest back.
Students: <passing around papers>
Ms. Juarez:   Other important things to remember, when composing or replying
to an email:

•  Use proper grammar

• Use complete sentences
• Be polite
• No texting abbreviations
•  No emojis

This things are just like when you are writing a narrative story / school work.
Okay, does everyone have their template? Great. This template is going to be
your cheat sheet to help you, compose school appropriate emails. Down at the
bottom, there is also examples of ways to start and email and ways to end an
email.
Ms. Juarez: Now I want you to take out your Chromebooks and log into
them. Great when you’re done with that step, please give me a thumbs
up. Awesome, if anyone needs their username please raise your hand.
Perfect. Everyone is logged in it looks like. Next if everyone can find
Google Chrome and open up the browser. The chrome browser will be
a red, green and yellow circle. Like the one on the projector screen.
Ms. Juarez: When you are done, with that step, you will type in the
following link into the browser please take a look projector screen.
Student 3: Ms. Juarez mine isn’t loading.
Ms. Juarez: let me take a look at your screen, okay I see what
happened. It looks like you put one too many dots after Gmail. Go
ahead and erase one and it should work.
Student 3: Okay it worked.
Ms Juarez: Perfect, how is everyone else doing? Show me you are ready
to proceed by giving me a thumbs up. Great, it looks like we are all
ready. Now you will log into your Gmail Email, with the same username
and password you use to log into your computer. A new page will load
up and you will see your INBOX, think of this as a web based mailbox.
This is where you get all of “mail”

Student 1: Hey Ms. I have 2 mails!

Ms. Juarez: That’s right Student 1, you should all have one email from
MSJUAREZ@SCHOOL.COM that’s my email address. Does everyone see
it?
Students: Yes
Ms. Juarez: Great! Now before we get into it. Let’s take a look at the
Action buttons, can someone take a guess as to what button you might
click to to write an email? Yes, Student 2.
Student 2: Compose?
Ms. Juarez: That’s right! You are all so smart. Compose means to write
or create. That is the action button you will click when it’s time to write
an email. Go ahead and click on that, if you are having trouble finding
it, take a look red circle location on the projector.

Ms. Juarez: That will open-up a pop up window like the one in the bigger red circle, does everyone see that?

Students: Yes

Ms. Juarez: Awesome, this new pop up window is where you will compose and email. Today you will type in
my email address, msjuarez@school.com , It is written on the write board. You will enter that into the “TO”
Section, You can also refer back to your cheat sheet.
Student 2: Ms. Juarez, what do I say to you in the email?

Ms. Juarez: You are going to use the template worksheet and to send
me an email telling me one way you can use email in school. But before
you do this, lets make sure we all know what to put, and how to get
that email to me. Class the Subject, is where you will write the main
reason for the email. The Body is where you will write the email. When
you are finished with that you will hit the SEND button at the bottom.

Please take your time practicing, if you have any questions please use
your resources. What are our resources?
Students 3: It is our cheat sheet, our classmates, our notes, and you.

Ms. Juarez: That’s right Student 3!

Students: Ms. Juarez, we are done.

Ms. Juarez: Great job everyone, now from your INBOX,

Student 1: Ms. Juarez what is the inbox again?

Ms. Juarez: that is the first screen we saw when we signed in, our virtual
mailbox. Now from the Inbox, I want everyone to click on the email from me.
MSJUAREZ@SCHOOL.COM . That will open up the email, I sent you and all it
contains. Thumbs up when you are there.
Ms. Juarez: Great, now you will click the reply. This one is tricky to find,
please see the projector, to help you.
Ms. Juarez: this will let you write back to me, please answer the questions in the email.
When you finish with your answers, hit send, it will automatically send it to me.
Ms. Juarez: that’s it guys you can not compose, send and reply to an email!
Ms. Juarez: Now that we are finishing up, please put log out of your Chromebook and put
them away. What did you guys feel was the easiest part of sending the email activity.?
Student 3: I liked using the Chromebook.
Ms. Juarez: Using technology is fun right? What about something you found to be tricky?
Student 1: When we had put in your email
Ms. Juarez: Why do you think that was Student 1?
Student 1: It starts to pull up other names when we type. I almost clicked on Ms James.
Ms. Juarez: oh, I see the predictive text, yeah that can be tricky sometimes, if you
accidently send it to the wrong person. But it can also save you some time, once you type
enough letters it can bring up the correct email. We just have to make sure we prooread,
and check all of the little sections for accuracy before we hit send. Good observation
Student 1.
