TRANSFORMER

Distribution transformer

Hermetic transformer CABELLO LAZARO, YESENIA

20131181C
COURSE: IP101M
CHARACTERISTICS
• It consists of two coils of conductive material, wound on a closed core of
ferromagnetic material, electrically isolated from each other.
• The core, in general, is made of iron or steel, suitable alloy to optimize the
magnetic flux.
•   The coils or windings are called primary and secondary as they correspond to the
input or output of the system.
APPLICATION

 It is used for subtransmission and transmission of electric power in

high and medium voltage
 They are used by electric companies to reduce losses due to the
Joule effect.
 To isolate voltages from the network:
This is used in areas where you need to be isolated from any
network defect, such as electro medicine.
CIRCUIT
ADVANTAGE AND DISADVANTAGE
 ADVANTAGE:
• Only a percentage of the energy is transmitted by induction.
• The electrical losses are always less than the magnetic losses.

DISADVANTAGE
• Danger of the cut of a turn, which produced that the secondary stayed to the tension of the
primary
• Low voltage regulation due to its low equivalent impedance
• The output of the transformer is not isolated with the input, this becomes unsafe for the
person who operates it.
