and taught Filipinas like Remedios
de Oteyza and Leonor Orosa.

The popularity of ballet gave birth


of many dancers in the
Philippines.

nature and doesn’t
conform the rules of
classical ballet.

It deals with a mixture of a


wide range of dances,
Western and Asian dances,
traditional dances, and
other experimental dances.
Folk and
Social
Dances
Francisca Reyes Aquino researched on the
Philippine Folk dances and her published
research influenced many Filipino dancers to
do similar researches.

When she entered the Bureau of Education,


the Bureau integrated folk dances in the
educational system which resulted to its
widespread popularity.

Numerous folkloric dance were established


later on. And dance groups developed Filipino
adaptations of European and American
dances.

integrated
traditional
customs in

ceremonies.
People on the regions
still performs
traditional and folk
dances especially in
fiestas and festivals.
Ballet still

ballet schools

Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG) in Mindanao State University in Iligan City

Dagyaw Theater and Dance Company and Teatro Amakan in Iloilo City
Philippine High School for the Arts in Laguna hones
the skills of the students in performing arts and has
its performing group.

There are still many other groups founded to develop


further, promote, and preserve Philippine dance.
