COJUANGCO AQUINO
Was a Filipino politician who served as the
11th president of the Philippines .
She was the first woman to become the
president of the republic of the Philippines
She was also one of the most prominent
and important figure of the 1986 People
Power Revolution.
 She was widely accredited as the “ MOTHER OF ASIAN
DEMOCRACY”
 Born on January 25 1933 in Paniqui ,Tarlac
 Died August 1, 2009 ( Makati Medical Center , Makati )
 She graduated from the College of Mount St. Vincent in New
York in 1953, with a bachelor's degree in both French and
mathematics.
 Her husband is the late Benigno Aquino a former senator of
the Philippines.
 She have 5 children ,four girls and one boy who also follow
the steps of his parent.

JOINT SESSION OF THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS –
SEPT. 18, 1986
• The Philippines was 7 month free from martial law era that lasted for 14 years
• The Philippines government was now a Democratic government
• The united states congress was held in Washington , DC
• The speech was delivered 7 months after the EDSA REVOLUTION (FEB. 25, 1986)
• The intent of the speech was to:
Declare the freedom of the Philippines from Marcus regime.
To mark a new beginning for the Philippines government and for the
Philippines as a country
To appeal for financial assistance by informing the Americans by the
Philippines state..

“AS PRESIDENT OF ALL MY PEOPLE, I WILL NOT BETRAY THE
CAUSE OF PEACE BY WHICH I CAME TO POWER. YET, EQUALLY
AND AGAIN, NO FRIEND OF FILIPINO DEMOCRACY WILL
CHALLENGE THIS. I WILL NOT STAND BY AND ALLOW AN
INSURGENT LEADERSHIP TO SPURN OUR OFFER OF PEACE AND
KILL OUR YOUNG SOLDIERS AND THREATEN OUR NEW
FREEDOM.”.
“I WAS A WITNESS TO AN EXTRAORDINARY
MANIFESTATION OF DEMOCRACY ON THE PART OF
FILIPPINO PEOPLE. THE ULTIMATE RESULT WAS THE
ELECTION OF MRS. CORAZON AQUINO AS THE
PRESIDENT AND MR. SALVADOR LAUREL AS THE VICE
PRESIDENT”.
