Shoulder wheel
 Parts:
◦ Fulcrum present at centre surrounded by wheel rim.
◦ It consist of spokes.
◦ Rheostat is used for resistance
◦ We can fix the resistance manually depending upon
the tolerance of the patient.
◦ It is either made up of metal or wood.
 Principle: First order lever.

 Therapeutic Uses:
1. To improve the range of motion of shoulder.
2. For strengthening the upper limb muscles.
3. To improve neuro muscular co-ordination.
4. Free exercises of shoulder
5. Active exercises of shoulder
6. Active assisted exercises of shoulder
7. Resisted exercises of shoulder
 Indications:
◦ Disorders of shoulder joint
◦ Post traumatic stiffness
◦ Frozen shoulder
◦ Post operative conditions of shoulder
◦ Supraspinatus tendinitis
◦ Weakness of shoulder musculature.
Forearm or wrist mover
 Parts:
◦ Single frame

• Principle:
 First order lever.
 Therapeutic uses:
◦ Free exercises
◦ Active exercises
◦ Resisted exercises
FINGER LADDER
Gives the objective reinforcement and motivation to
patient for improving shoulder range of motion.
It also feed back to the patient about improvement.

 Parts:
◦ It is a wooden device with serrations.
 Uses :
1. For improving range of motion.
2. For improving neuromuscular co-
ordination of upper limb.

 Indication:
1. Frozen shoulder.
2. Periarthritis shoulder.
3. Post traumatic stiffness of shoulder.
4. Weakness of shoulder muscles.
Quadriceps table
 Principle: First order lever.

 Parts:
◦ Foot rest at distal end
◦ Other end provided with weight
◦ Table with or without back rest
◦ Patient supported to sit in high sitting position and
perform knee extension.
 Therapeutic uses:
Useful for improving power and endurance of
quadriceps muscle.

 Indications:
◦ Quadriceps lag
◦ Quadriceps weakness.
Static cycle
 Principle: First order lever

 Therapeutic uses:
◦ Perform endurance exercises of both lower limb.

 Indications:
◦ Post traumatic stiffness of hip, knee and ankle.

 Importance:
◦ Static cycle give exercise in closes kinematic chain.
Tilt table
 Tilt table tilts about 1800 but postural
drainage table tilts about 3600
 Principle: First order lever.
 Therapeutic uses:

◦ Used for postural re-education for prolong bed


ridden patients.
 Indications:
◦ Spinal cord injury
◦ Major heart surgeries
◦ Defect to neurological function
◦ VBI( Vestibular Basilar Insufficiency)
Postural drainage table
 Conditions indicated by chest
physiotherapist.
CPM(Continuous passive Movement)
 Principle: Isokinetic device
 Isokinetic- In this angular velocity is kept

constant where as resistance applied to part is


changing according to the patients capability.
 Uses :

◦ Used for passive movements


• Indications:
post operative orthopedic conditions.
Treadmill
 Diagnostic & theraputic modality.
 Uses:

◦ For cardio respiratory functioning


◦ Overall fitness body
◦ Improves endurance.
Parallel bars with mirrors
 Parts:
◦ Flooring with mat surface.
◦ Horizontal adjustable bars on either side
◦ Mirror in front of bar.
 Principle:
◦ It gives sensory feedback to the patient. The horizontal
side bars are adjustable, height is adjustable.
◦ Ideal height is at the level of patients iliac crest.
 Therapeutic uses:
◦ Balance training
◦ Co-ordination training
◦ Postural correction
◦ Gait traning.
Activities of daily living device
(ADL device)
 Uses:
◦ Re- education of gross and fine motor activities of
upper limb.
 Therapeutic uses:
◦ Useful for flexion extension movements of wrist and
MCP joint, interphalengeal joints.
Rowing machine / sliding chair
 Principle: 1st order lever
 Therapeutic uses:

◦ Free exercises of upper & lower limb


Balance board
 Balance training.
 Proprioceptive training.
 Ankle movements.
Re- education board
 Parts:
◦ Four legs distally.
◦ Table top
 The powder is placed on board & patient is
supposed to perform all free exercises of
elbow, forearm and wrist joint.
 The purpose of powder is to avoid or to

reduce friction between body and surface of


the board.
