Basic controls and
Standards in pneumatic
operations
Prof. Michael T. Samonte
EST9L
Objectives:
At the end of this activity, the student are expected to:
1. Illustrate the different standards used in electro-pneumatics circuit;
2. Discover the different functions of relay; and
3. Design a relay memory circuit using fluidsim simulation software.

JIC (Joint Industrial Council) Standards
• JIC (Joint Industrial Council) Standards were written in the early 1950s
by a joint committee of major machine tool builders and users. The
purpose was to provide a uniform set of basic practices which would
result in a well-built machine tool. Four standards were written:
Electrical (EMP-1-67/EGP-1-67); Electronic EL-11-1971); Hydraulic (H-
1-1973); and Pneumatic (P-1-1975).
German Institute for Standardization (DIN)
• DIN, Deutsches Institut für Normung e.V. (German Institute for Standardization)
develops norms and standards for rationalization, quality assurance,
environmental protection, safety and communication in industry, technology,
science, and government, as well as the public domain. DIN standards provide
companies a basis for quality, safety and minimum functionality expectations and
enable you to:
• Minimize risk
• Improve marketability
• Promote interoperability
