YARN COUNT:

Definition:
 Count : It the numerical expression which express /indicates
coarsness or fineness of yarn.
or
According to textile institute”Count is a number of indicating the
mass per unit length or length per unit mass of yarn.
 Yarn count: is defined as the weight per unit length of the yarn or
length per unit weight.
TYPES OF COUNT SYSTEM

There are several count system of yarn. These count system have
been divided in two ways . one is Direct System where length is fixed and
another is Indirect system where weight is fixed

 Direct system ( length is fixed)

 Indirect system( weight is fixed)
DIRECT COUNT SYSTEM

 The weight of fixed length of yarn is determined .The weight per unit
length is the yarn count .
The following formula is used to calculate Direct count :

 N=(w×l)/L
 where,
N=Yarn count,w=Weight of the sample ,L=Length of the sample
l=Unit of length of the sample
Numbering system Unit of length(l) Unit of
weight(w)

Denier,D 9000 meter No. of Grams

DeciTex,dtex 10000 meter No. of Grams

Militex, mtex 1000 meter No. of miligrams

Kilotex 1000 meter No. of kilograms

INDIRECT COUNT SYSTEM

The length of fixed weight of yarn is measured .The length per unit
weight is the yarn count.

The following formula is used to calculate indirect count;

 N=(l×w)/W×l
 Where ,
N=Yarn count ,W=Weight of the sample ,L=Length of the sample
