THE DEVELOPMENTAL CYCLE OF A BUTTERFLY
THE EGG

– The life of a butterfly starts from being a small oval egg. And the
amazing thing with these eggs is that if we will look very close to it
we can actually see the tiny caterpillar growing inside of it. But
let’s take note that not all types of butterfliesmay have the same
shapes of eggs because the egg’s shapes will also depend on the
type of the butterfly that laid the egg.
THE LARVA (Caterpillar)

– After the egg hatches most of us expects for a butterfly to come out but we are
wrong because in this stage the egg just turns into a Larva or known as the
Caterpillar. The Larva would start eating the leaf they were born onto so that
they’d start growing and growing. The Caterpillar do not stay in this stage of
development for too long and all that they’d do in this stage is to eat and eat
leaves.
THE PUPA (Chrysalis)

– As soon as the Caterpillar is done growing and has reached their full size and
weight, they begin to form themselves into a Pupa. If we will look at the Pupa
from the outside it may just look like it’s resting but we must know that the real
developmental acts happens inside and these actions are so rapid inside the
Pupa.
THE BUTTERFLY (Adult Butterfly)

– After all of the developmental actions made by the Caterpillar that happened in
the Pupa, the Adult Butterfly will slowly come out from the Pupa. At first, it will
look like a resting bat but afterwards slow movements of coming out will
emerge until it’s wings comes out. Most of the times the Adult Butterfly may
take a little while to fly because it needs to rest for a while after coming out
from the Pupa to pump the blood into it’s wings before it’ll be able to work and
flap to fly. And it usually takes three to four hours until the Adult Butterfly starts
to fly and look for a mate to reproduce.
