15
Tools and techniques used for
execution of the project

16
1. Safety measures taken at the project site
• Life insurance is mandatory for all the employees and trainees
working at the site.
• Safety helmet and shoes are compulsory for everyone present
at the site.
• Compulsory safety vests and belts for workers.
• Caution boards wherever it is restricted to enter and at deep
points.

17
18
19
20
2. Materials used
• Concrete: M40 concrete
• RMC Plant is situated inside the project site itself.
• Steel used: Fe500 reinforcement steel.
• A large workspace and workers are assigned for bar bending
operation as per the drawings provided by the engineer.

21
22
23
3. Construction techniques
• Plywood shuttering:
Plywood shuttering technique was used for construction of
basement stories+ground floor since the design of the stories
were not uniform.

24
• Miven aluminium formwork:
1. Miven is an aluminium formwork which is also called as
MIVAN shuttering.
2. This was first developed in 1990, by the Mivan company ltd., in
Malaysia.
3. The Mivan formwork has proved economical as well as
satisfactory for overall construction environnment.
4. This is most suitable for constructing large no. of houses in a
short span of time using room size form to construct walls and
slabs in one continuous pour of concrete.
5. This system consists of all the components in a building
including slabs, beams, walls, columns, balconies etc.
6. No need of plastering.
7. Pin and wedge system is used in Mivan aluminium formwork

30
31
Process of Miven shuttering
• Setting up the reinforcement steel
• Marking and placing of formwork
• Reinforcement check
• Pouring concrete
• Removal of shuttering

32
Properties of Miven shuttering
• Sheet thickness: 4mm thick
• Load carrying capacity: 7000-8000 kg/sq.m
• Repetition: Minimum 250 times
• Material: Aluminum alloy
• Pin and wedge system is used in Miven shuttering to join
adjacent formworks.

33
Comparison of Mivan formwork system
with Conventional Construction
• Speed of construction
 The speed of construction is much slower in conventional
method due to longer process.
 Whereas in Miven formwork the time taken is less
comparatively.

• Quality
 Normal quality is obtained in conventional method of
construction.
 Superior quality is obtained due to in-situ casting of whole
structure.

34
• External finishes
 All the external walls are made up of bricks, so conventional
method requires manual plastering.
 All the external walls in Miven formwork are made up of
concrete and do not require manual cement plastering.

• Maintenance
 The cost is high as it requires frequent repairs of plasters of
wall and ceilings due to leakages.
 The cost of maintenance in Miven shuttering is negligible as
the walls and ceilings are made up of high quality concrete.

35
Towers cranes
• Tower cranes were used for lifting of heavy things and
transporting them to other places.

36
37
38
Construction of load bearing and partition
walls
• Almost all the walls were constructed using miven shuttering
with concrete.
• Few of the walls (both load bearing and partition walls) were
constructed using concrete blocks.
• The size of the standard block is 440mm x 215mm, they are
available in the range of widths from 50mm to 300mm
• 1:5 ratio of cement mortar was usually used.

42
Adoptability to new environment as a
member
• The first few days were challenging.
• Getting to know the project objectives and observing work
made me comfortable on site.
• Interacting with project managers, senior engineers and
executive engineers.
• Reaching out to supervisors, engineers and workers on site.
• Asking questions on process of work.
