 PRINCIPLES
 Reach the sit of accident as early as
possible.
 Don’t waste time asking unnecessary
questions.
 Find out the cause of injury.
 Find out whether the patient is dead or
alive, conscious or unconscious.
 Determine the priority of first aid measure
to be adopted e.g. restoration of cardiac
function , restoration of breathing and stop
bleeding from the site of injury, etc.
 Make sure the client’s airway is clear
/open ;place the victim in an appropriate
position.
 Check pulse and respiration. If breathing
stop, immediately give artificial respiration.
 Check for bleeding. If there is bleeding, try
to stop immediately.
 Do not let the crowed gather around the
victim as he/she need fresh air.
 Be clam, quick and methodological. Assess
and note all major injuries and wounds and
give first aid accordingly without losing
patient and time.
 Prevent shock and arrange for transportation

to health care facility.

 Keep the victim warm and do not move

him/her unnecessarily. Let them lie down in

comfortable position.
 The victim should be sent to a hospital or

doctor by quickest means of transport. Never

send the victim alone.
 Always inform the police about the serious

accident.
 Remove any foreign bodies which can easily
be removed or wiped out.
 Loosen tight clothing.
 Handle the victim gently in order to prevent

harm and unnecessary.

 Support large wounds and factures pain by

using splint or slings made of any clothes.

 If the patient is conscious, reassure him.
