Child development in

single parenting
Development and progress of childhood in
single parenting vs in coupled parenting
Coupled Parenting and Single Parenting

Parenting is a process by an infant gets the proper elements to grow up into a complete human
being. Generally we are familiar with coupled parenting. In this generation the idea of single
parenting is also emerging.
Single Parenting: Single parent is a person who has child or children raising alone without other
person or do not have a spouse. Due to divorce, other partner’s death, break-up, abandonment
or having adoption they end up being a single parent.
On the other hand, dual parenting is usually what we see, raising kids with both partners.

There are so many studies and debates about “Single parenting vs Dual parenting”. We did the
research and interviewed people from real life how do they manage their kids.
Family parenting possibilities

In two parent families, children typically have access to more of the economic and community resources because
parents are able to pool their time, money and energy.

Children living with married parents are more often involved in community activities such as soccer or other
sports, take part in academic pursuits in local schools and other academic institutions that can lead to college,
and eventually, a career.

Intact families tend to be more stable; parents tend to be more involved in their children’s lives and are more
highly invested in their children’s success.

Children living with both biological parents are 20 to 35 percent more physically healthy than children from
broken homes.
Challenges of Family Environment

● Parental communications characterized by

negativity, criticism, and low warmth have been
shown to foster depressive cognitive styles in
children, including self-criticism and low self-worth
● There has been a strong tradition of research
aiming to identify aspects of the family
environment that can enhance the well-being of
children with intellectual and developmental
disabilities

is little to no chances of domestic violence.
• Management of finance is easier for a single
parent.
• Children becomes super responsible from a very
young age.
• Children gets the undivided attention.
• As the parents are not dependent on others,
there is a sheer possibility of getting social and
economic security is the income source is stable.

time to spare with children

Conclusion
The discussion concludes with a thought that there are both
good and bad aspects of single and coupled parenting.
This study is not to give a definite verdict over which one is
better and which one is not.
Healthy family environment shapes a child’s moral character.
However the low income or unwanted environment does affect
the cognitive and academic outcomes
In single parenting children are tend to be more responsible. If
the parent can be a little responsible at the early stage, the
children-parent bond is stronger than that of coupled
parenting.
Single parenting or not, the proper growth of the children
depends on the character and behavior of their single or couple
