SAMR is….

for looking at and understanding one’s use of
educational technology.
The four phases of SAMR model

substitute with no functional change
• Augmentation- Technology acts as direct tool
substitute with functional improvement
• Modification- Technology allows for significant
task redesign
• Redefining- technology allows the creation of
new tasks previously inconceivable.
Examples for understanding
• Substitution = Writing a Report Vs Typing a
Report
• Augmentation= The addition of electronic tools
adds a functional change
• Modification= This report becomes a redesigned
assignment in terms of format and use
• Redefining=Creation of products that would be
inconceivable without technology such as Ppts
etc.
