Human Papillomavirus also known as?
A virus that can cause genital warts or asymptomatic infections.

Most common STD/STI in the U.S.


Genital Warts

- Pink/reddish warts with cauliflower-like tops.


- Can appear on the genitals, in the vagina & cervix.
- May take up to three months for the genital warts to appear.
- Can result in cervical cancer & cancer of the penis.
Chlamydia
- A bacterial infection that affects the
reproductive organs.
- 40% of cases reported are of teens ages
15 to 19 years old.
- An asymptomatic infection.
- Serious complications can occur when not
caught in time.
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
- Chronic pelvic pain
- Infertility
- Premature birth or birth defects
Genital Herpes

- Can infect the mouth as well.


- An asymptomatic virus for many
people.
- Symptoms if any will include:
- Blister-like sores that occur periodically.

- Can spread even if blisters are not


present.
Gonorrhea

- A bacteria that usually affects the mucous membranes.


- Most commonly found in females 15 to 19 years old & Males 20 to 24 years old.
- Most cases are asymptomatic. Symptoms can include:
- Difference in vaginal discharge
- Pain or burning when urinating

- Can spread to the bloodstream and cause permanent damage to the joints.
- Females can pass on to their babies during childbirth.
Pubic Lice (Crabs

- Pubic lice are tiny insects that live in hair of the pubic area.
- Referred to as crabs for the claws they use to cling to the hair.
- Can spread through sex or close sexual contact.
- Lice can’t jump.

- Itchiness and red irritation may occur.
