Definition of terms:
CONVENTION
– are generally larger meetings with
some form of exposition or trade show
included.
- are usually short event, lasting 2-3
days with no determined frequency
Definition of terms:
EXHIBITION
– is an event designed to bring
together providers of products, equipment and
services.
- An exhibition is a trade show that
focuses on B2B.
Definition of terms:
MEETINGS
– refers to the gathering of people to discuss
a set of agenda or do a particular activity
- an Ad Hoc basis ( as needed) or following a
set of pattern
- designed to bring people together for the
purpose of exchanging information.
- does not exhibit.
Forms of Meeting
1. Workshop – a small group lead by a facilitator or trainer. It
generally includes exercises to enhance skills or develop
knowledge in a specific topic.
2. Clinic – a workshop type educational experience in which
attendees learn by doing. Usually involves small groups
interacting with each other on an individual basis.
3. Forum – an assembly usually for the discussion of common
concerns. Experts in given field take opposite sides of an issue
in a panel discussion with liberal opportunity for audience
participation.
4. Symposium – an event usually at which a particular subject is
discussed by experts and opinions are gathered.
5. Seminars – a lecture and dialogue that allow participants to
share experiences in a particular field.

Planners – are individuals or groups or groups that
plan meetings, convention and exhibition.
3 categories:
1. Corporate meeting planner – works
exclusively for a corporation
2. Association meeting planner – works
exclusively for an association
3. Independent meeting planner – contract
their services both associations and
corporation

Host Facilities – provides lodging,
meeting rooms and food and
beverage as well as number of
other services for groups
attending meetings, conventions
and exhibitions.
