Trafficking Rates in South Carolina
● In 2019, South Carolina had 678
reported trafficking victims
○ 2018 had 188 victims, meaning that the
number of trafficking victims has gone up
nearly 360% in South Carolina.
● Horry County had the highest number of
victims.
○ Horry County encompasses the Myrtle Beach
area, where Brittanee was taken.
● Officials accredited successful reports
to the public’s awareness
○ As a result, local companies are trying to
raise awareness of the issue.
Human Trafficking is All Around Us
● Forced labor trafficking makes up
less than 10% of convictions.
● Forced prostitution (Brittanee’s
case) is 22%
● Takeaway: the issue is way more
widespread than some may
think.
○ Human trafficking occurs all around
us: and most of the time, we aren’t
even aware.
