Adverbs

What is an adverb?
words that usually modify
the meaning of verb  They
may also modify adjectives,
other adverbs, phrases, or
even entire sentences.

Form:
Most adverbs are formed by adding -ly to an adjective
bold / boldly
solid / solidly
If the adjective already ends in -y, the -y usually
changes to -i.
heavy / heavily
unnecessary / unnecessarily

There are, however, many common adverbs that do not end


in -ly
For example again, also, just, never, often, soon, today, too,
 very, and well.

importance/degree/level of the action
Example :She completely forgot about her
anniversary

2.Adverbs of Manner: express the


manner/approach/process of the action in the
sentence
Example: Mike is walking slowly

3.Adverbs of Place:indicate place/direction of the action


in the sentence
Example:He is staying at my home

4. Adverbs of Time:indicate time of the action in the


sentence
Example:I will leave Monday

5.Adverbs of Frequency:let us know how often the verb


occurs.
 Example:She usually shops at the target market

Use the adjective when you say something about


the person itself.
Use the adverb, when you want to say someting
about the action.

🌟I am a slow walker. (How am I?
→ slow → adjective)
He’s a good diver

🌟I walk slowly. (How do I walk?
→ slowly → adverb)
He dives really well
