Hydraulic Drive Coupl

ings and Fluid Coupli

ngs
Hydraulic Drive Coupling
• The hydraulic coupling is a device that links two rot
atable shafts.
Hydraulic Drive Coupling
• A load applied to the driven shaft will slow it down,
and a torque, or turning moment, that has the sam
e magnitude on both shafts will be developed.
Fluid Coupling
• A fluid coupling is used to transmit rotating mechan
ical power, providing variable speed and controlled
soft start-up in machine drives, avoiding shock loadi
ng.
Fluid Coupling
• It consists of a vaned impeller on the drive shaft faci
ng a similarly vaned runner on the driven shaft, bot
h impeller and runner being enclosed in a casing co
ntaining a liquid, usually oil. If there is no resistance
to the turning of the driven shaft, rotation of the dri
ve shaft will cause the driven shaft to rotate at the s
ame speed.
