PROJECT ON HYDRO-ELECTRIC FLOOR JACK
Cont’d
• In the case of a hydraulic floor jack, the power source comes
from a pump. The pump is usually mechanically or electrically
supported which can operated by means of cam and follower
powered, so a hydraulic floor jack is very powerful relative to
other jacks.
• A hydraulic floor jack's functioning is described very
accurately by Pascal's principle, which states that a force
applied to an enclosed fluid is transferred equally throughout
the entire fluid.
Statement of the Problem
• In Ethiopian airline facility and equipment maintenance
department, the most available floor jacks are manually
operated, Consume more Forces, consume much time, small
lifting height, less efficiency and lifting small weight. Thus, to
overcome this problem of drudgery, musculoskeletal disorders,
injuries, increase timeliness and efficiency in the mechanic
while changing tires braking system and carrying out some
other maintenance works beneath the vehicle prompted the
design of motorized hydraulic floor jack for vehicle must be
required.
Objectives of the project
General Objective
• Design and Modification of existing hydraulic floor jack
motorized hydraulic floor jack.
Specific Objective
• To develop the mechanism of Hydro-electric floor jack for
• To design and select material.
• To prepare detail drawing for manufacturing and assembly
process
…Cont’d
• Scope of the Project
• Among main components of motorized us design primary oil
reservoir, secondary oil reservoir, cam, and follower, check
valve, release valve, return spring, cover plate ,castors, Frame,
Leveling Arm, saddle, lifting arm, carry handle, Electrical
motor and release valve.
Working Principle of Hydro-Electric Floor Jack
• The Electric power is used to drive the A.C motor. The A.C
motor shaft is connected to the Cam and follower. If power is
given to the A.C motor, it will run so that the Cam also runs to
slow down the speed of the A.C motor. Then, after the cam
rotates the follower reciprocates, this reciprocation is moving
against the fluid then this fluid moves the screw upward so
that the vehicle lifts from ground. The vehicle is lifted by
using the lifting saddle at the top of the screw jack. The motor
draws power supply from the Electric source. The lifting and
uplifting is done by changing the electrical supply to the
motor.
Main components of HEFJ
• Reservoir
• Hydraulic pump
• Check valve
• Release valve
• Ram piston
• Cam and follower
• AC motor
• Return springs
CONCLUSION
• The internship period plays a great role to relate student’s
theoretical knowledge with practical skill. This helped us to
know our strengths and areas for improvement by
overshooting our future career with respect to our field of
study. In Bole International Airport a lot of mechanical
applications are implemented. during in our stay in this
company it helped us to develop additional skills like
communication skill, the habit of team work, practical skill,
communication skill with people at working place, creativity
knowledge about business, management skill about lead the
workers, work ethics and relating theoretical knowledge with
practical.
…cont’d
The project that we have taken is hydro-electric floor jack which
is A.C motor supported which is more useful in the lifting of
vehicle in the shop by means of cam and follower principle
that saves the human power and also saves the time than the
existing previously.
RECOMMENDATION
• The recommendation is regarding the preventive maintenance
and pre-installation trainings. luck of knowledge of the
technicians, only less than half of the machineries are
operating. The rest are either inoperative or have not started
operation because of lack of knowledge of these machines on
how they operate. So, every technician should be aware of the
operating mechanisms of these machineries. The technicians
should also be aware of the procedures on how to troubleshoot
the machineries.
Cont’d
• is when we designed that project it is only operated in the
work shop due to Alternator current (AC) controlled motor so
regarding on this the future generation will modify to the
portable jack that is operated by DC current.
Future Work
• There is a scope of improvement that is by replacing the
remote control with Bluetooth operating technology.
• The device can also be designed to operate using android
application.
