UNIT 3.0 – MANAGEMENT PROCESSES (LEADERSHIP)


LEADERSHIP:

INTRODUCTION

• An organization of a firm, such as construction firms depends not only on


the type and arrangement of the work in the firm but it is also depends to the
special capabilities of its staff.

• There are 2 factors in determining the ability of the staff or workers:

1) Its need a close supervision - Judging by the skills of workers


and work hard or bad operations.
2) The presence or otherwise of an experienced staff that is able to
act in a supervisory capacity.

In order to archieve a proper performance of work, the employee will be


gathered in a large group and placed under a leader.

• Such leaders will lead the group in the style of leadership.


LEADERSHIP:

DEFINITION

•The ability to persuade others to archieve specific objectives with


great interest. It is the human factor that combines a group and
drove them towards a specific purpose (Gary, 1971).

•Ability as a leader based on personal qualities, to win followers of


voluntary compliance in a wide range of matters (Etzioni, 1965).

•Any individual behavior on a regular basis stimulates the behavior


of a group (Gouldner, 1954).
LEADERSHIP:

DEFINITION

• Personal power refers to a leadership.

• A leadership is the formation of a very close personal power.


Completion is distinguished from the concept of leadership
because leadership is about influence, the changes of interest.
The difference between the Management and Leadership

Leadership

• Influence the activities involving the act of a group to achieve a


particular purpose.
• A behavior involves both the leaders and followers.
• In management's leadership, someone to inculcate social
influence on members in a group.

Management

•A manager may or may not be a leader.


•Leadership is an organizational style.
•Managing is wider than leading.
The difference between the organizational and leadership.

• According to Davis, the leadership is a part of the management.


Where a manager is required to plan and organize, and the ability
to persuade others to achieve the objectives stated in an
organization.

• It is base on human factor that binds the group together and


motivate them towards archieving the goal.

• Management activities such as planning, organizing and making


decisions is hard to handle unless the power to educate by the
leaders in human motivation and drive to archieve goals.
A quality & effectives Leader

• To be a quality and effective leader, one must be able to


produce a quality and effective followers.

• A follower (employee) said to be quality and effective if he is a


balanced and responsible person can succeed without strong
leadership.

• A committed, focused energy, honest and reliable.

• Responsible for risk, a self-starter capable of solving their own


tasks and problems.
A quality & effectives Leader

• A leader is empowered by his appointment to the validity of the


position held. He can use such power, such as giving the order
tasks, organize and get the flow of information and networking
tasks. But as an effective leader and quality he would use his
position properly and wisely.

• Leaders also need to be able to eliminate the negative issues in


leadership. Among the negative issues identified in the leadership
are:
 Lack of participation by others in the planning and
decision making.
 Lack of recognition of a job or task well executed
 Lack of interest in what employees want to achieve.
A quality & effectives Leader
• Effective and quality leader must be able to display himself to the
personal interests of the people under it to move.

• Always look for signs of creativity, his subordinates and then find
a way to sharpen these talents, including through motivation.

• Leaders play an important role and considered effective when


able to communicate skillfully and effectively to any matter
pertaining to the project from and to any related parties, especially
subordinates.

• The leaders to lead with clarity of vision, coupled with policies


that are easily understood objectives and their subordinates are
able to support it.
Relationship of leadership in the construction sector

• In the project, a leader of the project requires technical


knowledge.

• It is the key to engineering progress and increasing technological


innovation in the project.

• Such as reward systems management and creative


management methods can not substitute for effective leadership,
particularly the management of science and engineering.

• In leadership, the development project involve with - Clients,


Senior management, Consultants and others.

• Construction projects must also be subject to time, project scope


and cost requirements.
Leadership in project management

Definition :

• Project leadership is defined as a presence and a process


implemented in an organization that holds the role of responsibility
to meet the requirements and the rights of the yamg choose to
follow a leader in meeting project milestones (Cleland, 1995).

• Leadership is defined as a construction project and the presence


of memgang construction projects meet the needs and rights of
responsibilities of the lead in achieving the completion of the
construction project.
