SOCIOLOGY
SOCIOLOGY
Sociology studies how people relate to each other and how they
work as a whole in the larger society. The sociological perspective
sees the general in particular.
Sociology was developed as a way to study and try to understand the
changes to society brought on by the Industrial Revolution in the 18th
and 19th centuries. Some of the earliest sociologists thought that
societies and individuals’ roles in society could be studied using the
same scientific methodologies that were used in the natural sciences,
while others believed that is was impossible to predict human
behaviour scientifically, and still others debated the value of such
predictions. Those perspectives continue to be represented within
sociology today
Sociologists study all aspects and levels of society.
AUGUSTE COMTE- French social thinker who coined the word
“Sociology” in 1838 to encapsulate the idea of improving society by
understanding how it operates.
