What is Future Tense?
 Apart from past and present tense, there is also a future
tense in English language.

 Verbs that expresses events or actions that have not yet


happened and that will happen at some point in the future.

 Expresses actions that will occur.

When to use simple future tense?

• To express promises or predictions


Example : It will rain tomorrow. ; Your items will arrive tomorrow.

• To make an offer or suggestion


Example : I will prepare the dinner. ; I will help you later to finish your work.
Future Progressive Tense
 Expresses actions that will be ongoing at some point in the future.

Subject + Will be + Present Participle (add “-ing” to end


of the verb)

When to use future progressive tense?

• To extend ourselves in the future.


Example : By October, I will be swimming like a pro.
By this time tomorrow night, I will be sleeping in my own bed.
The concert will be going on till late at night
Future Perfect Tense
 Expresses actions that will occur.

Will Have + Past Principle

When to use future perfect tense?

• To express actions that will be finished at some point.


Example : By the time you arrive, we will have eaten dinner together.
By this time next week, I will have worked on this project for twenty days.

• Expresses actions that will be finished before another future event.


Example : They will have lived in their new home for two years this fall.
Future Perfect Progressive Tense
 Expresses ongoing actions that will be completed at some specific time in the
future.

Will Have Been + Present Participle ( add “-ing” at the


end of the verb )

When to use future perfect progressive tense?

• To express ongoing actions that will be completed at specific future time


Example : In June, I will have been working as a professor for 15 years.
By this time next week, I will have worked on this project for twenty days.
In 10 minutes time, I will have been hanging around here for exactly two hours.
Other Ways to Depict Future Tense
Using present continuous tense
• I am leaving for the school trip tomorrow.
• We are staying with our aunt once we arrive Using simple present tense
at the town. • She has her lecture in the afternoon.
• I have an exam next Monday.

Using the word ‘going’


• Is it going to rain tonight?
• He is going to be a best student in the Referring to the immediate future
future. • We are just about to leave the for the party.
• He is about to reach your house.
