Thesis Synopsis

Tittle : AFFORDABLE HOUSING on the guidelines of PMAY

Thesis
5th Year 10th Semester Krupali Thakkar
Preface :

Introduction: Architecture evolved from the basic need to create shelter. The
beginnings are rooted in man’s primal need to define space and an envelope for his daily
activities. Everyone shares the right to a decent standard of living. The essential to
achieve this standard is through accessing to adequate housing.

Need: By the year 2030, more than 40% of the Indian population will live in urban
India, as against the current figure of 34%, which is likely to create a demand for 25
million additional affordable housing units (as per the report titled Brick By Brick:
Moving towards ‘Housing for All’, by RICS -Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in
association with international property consultant Knight Frank).

Present Scenario: The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Programme launched by
the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (MoHUPA), in Mission mode
envisions provision of Housing for All by 2022, when the Nation completes 75 years of its
Independence.
