Krupali Thakkar 10th Semester, 5th Year

Preface:

Introduction: We are still away from the day when students, researchers, and teachers can access
entire research collections from their desktops. Nonetheless, a wealth of high-quality material is
now accessible electronically. A library is a room or building containing balanced collection of data
and information in the form of books, journals, archives, periodicals, and even recorded audio or
visual materials for use or borrowing by public for a certain period of time. What is the role of a
library when it no longer needs to be a warehouse of books?

With the changing times as a result of digitalization and worldwide webbing (searching and finding),
the treasury and the temple of knowledge is losing its importance of having the primary role of a
traditional library. Building up public libraries has an opportunity to bring everyone into this global
conversation and to bridge what is often called ‘the digital divide’.

Need: Nagpur being the one of the major educational hubs with a literacy rate of 91.37%(census
2011) yet lacks a public library where there is quality reading and interactive spaces where healthy
exchange of ideas and thoughts take place.

Building Typology: Public Space (Library + offices + social space)

Objectives:

1. Create affordable housing for the specified income groups on the guidelines of PMAY-
Maharashtra that is affordable to build and also affordable to the occupants with low

spaces.
3. Use of materials and technology which is environment friendly and economic.
