Introduction
Alternative education encompasses many pedagogical approaches
differing from mainstream pedagogy. Such alternative learning
environments may be found within state, charter, and independent schools
as well as home-based learning environments. Many educational
alternatives emphasize small class sizes, close relationships between
students and teachers and a sense of community
Waldorf Montessori and Reggio Emilia are the most prominent alternative
educational pedagogies in India. Many studies and thesis have been
conducted in the context of Waldorf and Montessori method of education.
There are few studies and awareness about Reggio Emilia pedagogy,
despite the fact that it is one of the best methods of education.

3
To create an alternative educational institution based on Reggio Emilia
pedagogy to explored the relation between built environment and personality
development, as well as to raise awareness about alternative education
AIM
• To design space for children to grow as individuals is
dependent on their exposure to society and their ability to
learn in a community.

• To explore how the children perceive their built environment in

the aspects of Reggio Emilia pedagogy
OBJECTIVE
• to design a learning space that integrates nature both inside
and outside.

• to create a learning environment that incorporates alternative

pedagogical approaches
Our educational system still places a premium on high exam scores for a limited set of skills, largely
academic. Because most schools neglect the notion that each child is unique, children may not reach
their full potential in their abilities. As a result, a system change is required. While traditional schools
teach children to conform to the current quo, alternative education provides a road to new
perspectives and possibilities. Many schools have adopted some of the alternative ways, but full-
fledged alternatives are still a long way off. The instruction should be child-centered and focused on
the overall development of the child.
