The book is based on the doyen on Modern


Architecture, Sir Achyut Kanvinde and his
projects and was released by none other than
Ar. Balkrishna Doshi, another pioneer of
contemporary Indian Architecture.

The book is a compilation of the selected


master works of the architect, text of memoirs
by Balkrishna Doshi, Charles Correa, Anant Raje
and Kanvinde sir himself. The book also contains
a lot of images of the projects as well as hand
drawn sketches of the buiildings and the design
process.


1. The 112 pages book is a very crisp compilation of master projects of Kanvinde sir
through which we are easily able to draw the design ideology, philosophies and the
principles her focused on.
2. The size of the book is 230mm x 165mm x 15mm. The book is very handy and not too
heavy which makes it easy to carry and handle.

4. The colour scheme used is basic black and white monochrome but blue colour bands are
introduced to break the monotony and fill the negative spaces in an irregular fashion.

5. The quality of the pages used is very good, smooth and of premium quality.
6. The time line given at the end helps to draw a pattern of evolution in Kanvinde’s desgin
and makes it easy for the reader.
7. The language used is simple and easy to understand.
8. The cover page picture itself speaks of the design ideology through the image of IIT
Kanpur where is material is seen in it’s true form, light is allowed in and the structural
elements itself form the visual elements.
9. The hand written memoirs give a personal touch to the book.


1. The biography given at the end could be a little more detailed to give a better
understanding of the architect to the reader who has been reading about the architect for
the first time.
2. The biography and the timeline that is given at the end could be shifted to the beginning as
in the book ‘Achyut Kanvinde – Akar’ by Tanuja Kanvinde.
3. The images of the structures could have been in true colour to get a better understanding
of the material used.
