Introduction

Today’s major problem is water scarcity, which leads to a large number of

bore wells being dug in our country (Mehta, 2007). Bore wells, when not

useful are left uncovered, people remove the pipes from these bore well to

save a mere 2000-3000 rupees. This causes increase in the diameter of the

bore well. Small child without noticing the hole of bore well got slipped and

trapped in it.
Objectives

 To fabricate the working rescue machine.

 To identify the main problems in the rescue operation.

 To suggest the modified design.

 To identify the problems in the previous models.

Motivation

 Due to the carelessness of people, bore wells are left uncovered when not
useful.
 This causes unwary children to fall in it and get themselves stuck .
 Many Children die due to falling into bore wells (Table. 1).
 175 in 2010, , 192 in 2011 and 194 in 2012 children fell into the bore well.
Literature Review

 When the casing pipes costing hardly Rs.2000-3000/- are removed,

even a six inch bore became wider and trap an unwary child (Mehta,
2007).
 Causalities was in Madhya Pradesh (67) followed by Maharashtra
(39), Uttar Pradesh (19), Gujarat (18) and Tamil Nadu (13) occurred in
2012.
 Number of deaths of children up to 14 years due to fall in bore well
have increased with the years from 175 in 2010 to 192 in 2011 and
further to 194 in 2012 (Home Ministry).
 A survey in Haryana shows that in every three children fall into bore
well only 1 is alive. As per the survey we found that the ratio of dead
and alive children is 15:1 (Bharathi & Samuel, 2013).
History of incidents
Table 1: Incidents occurred in the country (Sakhale et al., 2013)
Conventional method to rescue the child (Fig. 1):

 Measure the length of the bore well.

 Check the topography of the place.
 Choose proper method and technics.
 Dig a pit parallel to bore well
 Size of the pit should be more than size of the adult person.
 Rescuer has to go into the bore well to rescue the child.
 This method takes more than 30 hours.
Fig. 1: Conventional Rescue Method
Steps of Rescuing

 Avoid rushing to the bore well.

 Fix the platform on the well

 Admit fresh air into the well with the help of blower

 Monitor the movement if child with the help of camera attached with
machine into the bore well.

 Because of small diameter of bore well, parallel pit is digged.

Problem Identification

 The child would have died in long time consuming operation.

 Lack of oxygen inside the bore well leads to suffocation.
 No such equipment which can rescue the child safely trapped inside
the bore well.
 Local body is not equip with the technology and training to handle
such type of accidents.
 It is not only a time taking process, but also risky in various ways.
Conti………..

 Lack of visualization causes the major difficulty during the rescue

operation.
 Heavy machine is used to dig a parallel pit to bore well leads very high
vibration that causes physical and mental damage to the child.
Our Solution

 The bore well rescue machine is an efficient and effective.

 Provide the facility of visualization of the child.
 The bore well rescue machine is semi automated.
 It needs less human effort.
 This machine takes the minimum space and time for operation.

Modified Design of Bore well Rescue Machine

We have also made two modified design of bore well rescue Machine. These
Design have some advantages over the Existing Design :

 Can perform operation with in narrow space

 Any part of the machine does not come in contact with the child except arms
and wings.
 Can grab the child at any position into the bore well.
 Manual work is decreased in these designs.
 The modified design provides more safety to the child.

Summary and Conclusion

The proposed design and fabrication of bore well rescue machine is an efficient and
effective way for providing the rescue operation for the trapped child into the bore
well. Another salient feature of the proposed machine is to provide the facility of
visualization of the child during working condition of the machine. Sustainability of
the proposed machine can be judged on the basis of the manufacturing price
(approximate Rs/-6353) and non utilization of any toxic materials. The proposed
machine is semi automated and it needs less human effort for rescue operation of the
child.
