Value Chain for Vehicle Service
 Automobiles
1. INTRODUCTION
need maintenance from time to time. Therefore, Like
humans are required to maintain hygiene, similarly automobiles
also need to be kept clean.
 To use vehicle for the purpose that we want, the vehicle must be
serviced based on service time.

Importance of vehicle maintenance and servicing:- -

 To keep the vehicle in good running condition
 To keep the operation cost less
 To provide safety on vehicle operation
2. GENERAL OBJECTIVE
 to develop a competitive and well-organized value chain for
vehicle service

2.1. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

-to identify viable technologies to bring a sustainable
development in all enterprises over the country.
-Identify a number of technologies by comparing the AS IS to
benchmark for vehicle service
Identify technologies gaps for 100% technology copying and
project based training purposes
 A 3.value chain

in a simple manner (value chain
developed at product/services level).
 For the purpose of this manual we select simple value chain
development techniques that prepared at sub sector

5.1. Planning and Preparation
5. Data Collection

After the selection of the value chain to develop, the following are
taking into consideration in planning and preparation stage;
-Background
-Survey Area:-The survey areas mainly focused at Hadiyya zone in
Hossana city were selected
 SMES or Garage engaged in vehicle service
 Vehicle owners and drivers

Survey Period
The survey was conducted during the period of November 15-
16/2012 E.C
Gathering Tool Development
 In able to collect all the information needed for value
chain development, a set of gathering tools must be
developed.
Such as :-
 Interviews
 Observations
Mapping Value Chain Activities

 Mapping a chain means creating a visual representation or a flow

diagram of the connections between activities in value chains

 Ithelps to illustrate and understand the process by which a

service goes through several stages until it reaches the final
customer
.
.
.
.
Value Analysis
 Itis analyzing value of each activities and how it is undertaken in
existing situation (AS IS) with respect benchmark
.
.
Technology Identification and Categorization

 Technology identification is the process of identifying

technologies from the benchmark
 Categorization of technology:

The process of segregating identified technologies according to

four categories of technologies namely:
o Techno ware
o Human ware,
o Info ware and
o Orga ware
.

 The following is the actual four categories of technologies

identified in vehicle service value chain analysis.
..
.

.

 The illustration below represents the vehicle service within
Economic and infrastructure sector and the linkages to the other
sector like the industry development sector, trade, and social
sector.
 the techno wares identified will be fabricated by metal engineering
sector
 the vehicle service or product will be exchanged or sold by trade
sector
 the end user of product or service is social sector and so on.
