Our Teeth

Babies are born with no teeth.


 An adult person has 32 teeth.
 Teeth are held in place by your gums.
 It is important to keep them inside of your clean mouth.
 We clean our teeth with a tooth brush.
 If you don’t clean your teeth they will be dirty and this causes gum diseases.
 Gun diseases make your gums to become painful and swollen.
 Tooth decay makes your teeth hurt.
Causes of Tooth Decay
- If we don’t brush our teeth after meals they are likely to rot or decay.
- Eating a lot of sweets or food that contains a lot of sugar causes tooth decay.
- Not eating enough food like vegetables, fresh food, cheese, fish, milk and
meat.
- Using an old worn out tooth brush which would clean the teeth properly.
 Effects of Tooth Decay
What happens when our teeth rot?
- Our teeth can fall out. We will lose them because they have decayed.
- When teeth rot we feel a lot of pain (toothache).
- Tooth decay also leads to gum diseases.
- A person with tooth decay has problems with chewing or eating.

Ways of Preventing Tooth Decay


1. Brushing our teeth correctly after meals especially after breakfast and before
going to bed.
2. Use a soft tooth brush and one that is in good condition.
3. Use toothpaste that contains fluoride. Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay.
4. We must eat plenty of vegetables and meat.
5. We must not eat too many sweets as these can cause tooth decay.
6. We must visit a clinic every six months. The dentist helps check our teeth and
help stop tooth decay.
