One prayer in al-Masjid al-Haraam in Makkah is better than one

hundred thousand prayers offered in any other mosque, except
al-Masjid an-Nabawi, in which one prayer is better than a
thousand prayers offered elsewhere.

Makkah is unique in that it is the place where Hajj and ‘Umrah

are performed, people circumambulate the Ka‘bah, touch the
Black Stone and the Yemeni Corner (ar-Rukn al-Yamani), and do
sa‘i between as-Safa and al-Marwah.

“The first House of God to be set up for men was at Bakkah the
blessed, a guidance for the people of the world.” (3:96)

a) Revelation of the Qur’an
The Qur’an was transmitted directly from Allah to
the Messenger of Allah through Gibril (not a mere
inspiration)
The Qur’an was not revealed to the Messenger of
Allah all at once. The period of revelation lasted for
around 23 years.
It was revealed to him in stages and sometimes in
accordance with incidents faced by Muslim
community.
The Qur’an and the other Revealed
Books
Universality:
The previous Books were local for specific people.
Qur’an as the last revealed Book and a universal
message for all mankind needs to be
comprehensive and eternally preserved.
Miraculous book
The Qur’an is the main miracle of the Messenger of Allah
and the main proof of the authenticity of his prophethood.
The miracles contained in it are the proof of its authenticity
as the real Book of Allah
Its miracle is in terms of:

Revelation
Who is Muhammad?
“.... A mass of detail in the early sources show that he was an honest and
upright man who had gained the respect and loyalty
of others who were like-wise honest and upright men." (Vol. 12)

George Bernard Shaw: I have prophesied about the faith of Muhammad

that it would be acceptable to the Europe of tomorrow as it is beginning
to be acceptable to the Europe of today.”
I have studied him - the wonderful man and in my opinion for from being
an anti-Christ, he must be called the Savior of Humanity." ('The Genuine
Islam,' Vol. 1, No. 8, 1936.)

"My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of the world's most influential
persons may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others,
but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both
the religious and secular levels."

"I wanted to know the best of one who holds today's undisputed sway
over the hearts of millions of mankind..”

The Doctrine of Islam or
Pillars of Belief
Muslims summarize their doctrine in six articles of faith:
1.Belief in Allah:
Allah is the Supreme Being who exists independently of everything
else.
Allah is one, eternal, creator, and sovereign.
He is free of any need for others.
He is the sole Creator of all.
Allah has ordered His creation and forbidden them only in ways
which are in their best interest.
He sent the Messengers and the books with the truth.
Attributes of Allah

The Creator and the Controller of the Universe.

He is the Lord of all the worlds.
He is the Gracious,
The Merciful.
He is the Master of the Day of judgement. (1: 1-4)

He listens to Human’s supplications and prayers

(2:187). He provides for all their needs (42:20).
He overlooks their shortcomings and forgives their
excesses (39:54).
He is there whenever they need Him, in distress or
prosperity (13:27).
He deals with His creation with mercy, love and
compassion (3:31).
How to know Allah?

1. Thinking about creations:

“In the creation of the heavens and the earth, the
alternation of night and day, are signs for the wise.” (Al
Quran 3:190).

“And within yourselves. Can you not perceive?” (Al

Quran 51:21).

2. Allah explained about Him in Ala Quran:

“SAY: "HE Is God, the one, the most unique”

“God the immanently indispensable.”
“He has begotten no one, and is begotten of none.”
“There is no one comparable to Him.” (Al Quran 112:1-
4).
“We created human from the finest extract of clay”

“Then We placed him as a sperm in a firmly established lodging”

Then We fashioned the sperm into an embryo, then fashioned the

embryo into a shapeless lump of flesh; then from the lump of flesh We
fashioned bones, then clothed the bones with flesh. Thus We formed
him into a new creation. So blessed be God the best of Creators”

And then you will certainly die”

Then will be raised up on the Day of Resurrection.” (23:13-16).

2 . Belief in the angels:
Angels were created from light before human beings were created.

They are generally beautiful beings with wings as described in Islamic

scripture.

The greatest of them is Gabriel.

They love the believers and beseech God to forgive them their sins.

The Number of Angels

How many angels there are? Only God knows.

The Much-Frequented House is a sacred heavenly sanctuary above the

Kaaba in the city of Mecca. “Every day seventy thousand angels visit it
and leave, never returning to it again, followed by another group.”
(Bukhary)
Tasks of the Angels

Some angels are put in charge of executing God’s law in the physical world.

Michael is responsible for rain, directing it wherever God wishes. He has

helpers who assist him by the command of his Lord; they direct the winds and
clouds, as God wills.
Israafeel: responsible for blowing the Horn, which will be blown at the onset
of the Day of Judgment.
Angel of Death: responsible for taking souls out of the bodies at the time of
death. God says:

"Say: the Angel of Death, put in charge of you, will (duly) take your souls, then
shall you be brought back to your Lord." (Quran 32:11)

Raqeeb and Atheed:  responsible for recording the deeds of man, good and
bad.
3. Belief in the prophets
Belief in certain prophets is a required article of
Islamic faith.

God conveys His message through human prophets.

God sent to every nation a prophet to worship God

alone.

Muslims believe in those prophets such as Adam,

Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Ishmael, David, Solomon,
Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad.
Purpose for Sending Prophets
1. Guiding humanity from the worship of created beings to the worship of their
Creator.

2. Clarifying to humanity the purpose of creation: worshipping God and obeying

His commands, as well as clarifying that this life is a test for each individual.

3. Showing humanity the right path that will lead them to Paradise and to
salvation from Hellfire.

4. Establishing proof against humanity by sending prophets, so people will not

have an excuse when they will be questioned on the Day of Judgment.
Purpose for Sending Prophets…

5. Uncovering the unseen ‘world’ which exists beyond the

normal senses and the physical universe, such as the
knowledge of God, existence of angels, and the reality of the
Day of Judgment.

6. Providing human beings practical examples to lead moral,

righteous, purpose-driven lives free of doubts and confusion.
Innately, human beings admire fellow human beings, so the
best examples of righteousness for humans to imitate are
those of God’s prophets.

7. Purifying the soul from materialism, sin, and heedlessness.

The Doctrine of Islam
Pillars of Belief ….

4. Belief in the divine scriptures:

Muslims believe in the other revealed books where they tie in
with what is said in the Holy Quran, but reject all that is
contrary to it.

1. The Scrolls of Ibraaheem:

Allah informs about what is mentioned in the Scrolls of
Ibraaheem and is repeated in the Scrolls of Moosaa.
“That no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another.”
(Quran 53:38)
The Quran refers to the Scrolls of Ibraaheem:
"But you prefer the worldly life, while the Hereafter is better
and more lasting. Indeed, this is in the former scriptures, the
scriptures of Ibraaheem and Moosaa.” (Quran 87:16-18)
2. The Psalms (Zaboor)
Allah Says (what means): “…And to Daawood We gave the book
[of Psalms].” (Quran 4:163)
 It was mentioned in the Psalms that the righteous will inherit the
earth. Allah Almighty Says: “And We have already written in the
book [of Psalms] after the [previous] mention [i.e., the Torah] that
the righteous will inherit the earth.” [Quran 21:105].

3. The Torah
It contained guidance for people as well as Divine
commandments.
Allah Says (what means): “But how is it that they come to you for
judgement while they have the Torah, in which is the judgement of
Allah?...” [Quran 5:43]
“Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in which was guidance and
light.”[Quran 5:44]
The Torah also contained glad tidings about the coming of our Prophet
Muhammad
Allah Says: "Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet,
whom they find written [i.e., mentioned] in what they have of the
Torah…" [Quran: 7:157].

4. The Injeel (Gospel)

•Allah Says (what means): “..And We gave him [i.e., 'Eesaa Son of Maryam] the
Gospel, in which was guidance and light, and confirming that which preceded it of
the Torah…” [Quran 5:46]

•Allah also confirms that the Injeel contained Divine Laws:

“And let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed therein.”
(Quran 5:47)

•The Injeel comprises the amended laws of the Torah; Allah Says (what means):
“And [I have come] confirming what was before me of the Torah and to make lawfu
for you some of what was forbidden to you…" [Quran 3:50]

•The Injeel conveyed glad tidings of the advent of Prophet Muhammad

The Doctrine of Islam
Pillars of Belief ….

5. Belief in the last day of judgment and the hereafter:

Everyone will be resurrected for judgment into

either paradise or hell.

one of the evidence:

Coccyx
It is this coccyx from which man will be brought back to life on the Day of
Resurrection. The Prophet (PBUH) asserted that Allah will send water from the sky
and then the dead bodies will grow like vegetation grows. There is nothing of the
human body that does not decay except one bone, the coccyx.

6. Belief in predestination:
Muslims believe Allah has decreed everything
that will happen. Muslims testify to Allah’s
sovereignty with their frequent phrase, in sha
Allah, meaning, “if God wills.”
The Five Pillars of Islam
1. The testimony of faith (shahada):

The testimony of faith (shahada): “la ilaha illa

allah. Muhammad rasul Allah.” This means,
“There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the
messenger of Allah.”
Shahadah is the first duty of a Muslim.
A person can convert to Islam by stating this
creed.
2. Solat/ Prayer

Salah is the five daily prayers which need to be offered

at set times during the day.

Before offering Salah Muslims need to prepare

themselves by making sure they are clean.

They do this by carrying out Wudu (ablution), which is

washing themselves.

All Muslims stand upright on their prayer mats facing

Ka’bah in Saudi Arabia.

Muslims pray to remember Allah and to be close to

Allah.
3. Giving Zakat

Zakah is an act of worship - Ibadah.

Zakah is giving money to the poor.

Zakah is paid once a year by those Muslims who have

more money than they need to spend.

Zakah is paid to help the poor, the needy and people in

trouble or difficulty. Giving Zakah creates love between
rich and poor.

Paying Zakah encourages Muslims to be honest of their

earnings and keeps them clear of selfishness.
4. Fasting Ramadan/ Sawm

Sawm means fasting during the month of Ramadan every year.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

Fasting is not eating and drinking during the day while the sun
shines.

Muslims fast to gain Allah’s favour and to keep themselves

away from greed and selfishness.

At the end of Ramadan Muslims all around the world celebrate

the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr, a day of joy and thanksgiving to Allah.

On this day Muslims offer special prayers and thank Allah for
His blessings and mercy.
5. Hajj

Hajj is a visit to the Ka’bah, the house of Allah in Makkah by

those Muslims who can afford the trip and are physically fit.

Hajj is performed during the twelfth month of the Islamic

calendar.

The Muslim community from all over the world go there every
year. A Muslim tries to make the pilgrimage at least once in
their life time.

During Hajj Muslims celebrate the festival Eid-ul-Adha.
