 Have you ever thought why lemons and
oranges taste is sharp or sour ?

 Because they contain a solution called acid.


 there are two types of acids basically one is
naturally occurring and remaining are man
made or laboratory acids.
 Naturally occurring acids:
There are number of acids we find in everyday life .
These are naturally occurring acids.
We may find these acids in all citrus fruits i.e. lemons
oranges grapes contain acid. These are also present in our
bodies .

 Acids have a pH less than 7.
 Acids conducts electricity when soluble in
water.
 Acids are electrolytes.

ALKALIS/BASES
Alkalis are the chemicals opposites of acids.
Alkalis and acids when combine together
they neutralize each other properties and
produce salts.
PROPERTIES OF ALKALIS
 Alkalis taste bitter.
 Alkalis are soluble in water.
 Alkalis are corrosive.
 Alkalis are soapy to the touch.
 Alkalis turn red litmus blue.
 Alkalies have a pH more than 7.
 Alkalis conduct electricity when in solution.
