INTRODUCTION
What is a MODULE?
A module is a specific type of learning resource. It is…
 Essentially self contained
 Self instructional package
 Self paced learning according to pupil’s need and ability
INTRODUCTION
What is a MODULE?
 Cover either single element or a group of content
elements of subject matter or area of skill.
 It is a recent development based on Programmed
instruction.
DEFINITION
What is a MODULE?
“Module is a unit of work in a course of
instruction that is virtually self-contained and a
method of teaching that is based on the building
up skills and knowledge in discrete units.”
CHARACTERISTICS  Systematically organized learning
 Utilization of a variety of media.
 Independent  Active participation by learner
 Self-contained  Immediate reinforcement of
 Self instructional responses
 Well defined  Mastery of evaluation strategy.
 Clearly defined objectives  Evaluation of the work.
 Concern individual differences
 Association, structure sequence of
knowledge

MODULAR TEACHING

MODULAR TEACHING is one of the most widespread and

recognizes teaching learning in United States, Australia and
many other Western countries including Asian Region.

Modular is used in almost all subjects like natural science,

especially in biology and medical education and even in social
sciences as well as in computers education.
What is MODULAR TEACHING?

It is a recent development based on programmed learning; a well

established and universally recognized phenomenon.

It considers the individual differences among the learners which

necessitate the planning for adoption of the most appropriate
teaching techniques in order to help the individual grow and
develop at her/his own pace.
What is MODULAR TEACHING?
It is an alternative instructional design that uses developed
instructional materials which are based on the needs of the students.

It is a method in which students are encouraged to work on various

activities that are interesting and challenging to maintain focus and
attention, thereby encouraging independent study.

WHY A MODULAR COURSE

STRUCTURE?
HERE ARE SOME ADVANTAGES OF
MODULAR APPROACH.
ADVANTAGES

There are several advantages to a modular presentation. The most

important is that it allows for better evaluation and more focused
revision and improvement.

Modifying a module is easier and more cost effective than revising a

course or one large module.
ADVANTAGES

Another advantage to a modular approach is that parts of the

course can be used and reused elsewhere in other courses.

Courses that are already in a modular format are ultimately

more flexible and easier to convert for delivery in other
formats.
ADVANTAGES

It also enables the learner to have a control over his

learning and accept greater responsibility for learning.

It already got wider accessibility in the present

educational scenario.
DEMERITS

Modules are economical in their use.

Appropriate only for matured students.

This method demands smart classrooms.

CONCLUSION

If we analyze the modular method of

teaching more, we can say that this is more
effective, recent and more technology based
teaching method in the present educational
field.
CONCLUSION

In the recent years, the consent of modular

curriculum has been under discussions in
secondary schools. Modular approach
provides more flexibility to distance teaching
mode as well to learners.
CONCLUSION

Lastly, it is the most convenient way to reached

out to all the learners that has no means of
connecting to the internet, thus this method is the
easiest way to cope with today’s education system
considering economical status of rural learners.
