Basic Concepts of Differential Equations

Differential Equation is simply the differential of


dependent variable (y) with respect to independent
variable (x) and denoted as dy/dx.

ORDER AND DEGREE

ORDER- is the order of highest derivative appearing in


the equation.

DEGREE- exponent of the highest differential coefficients


when the equation is a polynomial

TWO KINDS OF DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS

ORDINARY- is a differential equation whose unkown


function (dependent variable usually y) depends on only
one independent variable.

PARTIAL- is a differential equation whose unknown
