Introduction
• Diabetes is the most common medical omplication of pregnancy
• Fetal & Neonatal mortality rates were as high as 65%
• Now there is 30 fold decrease in mortality rates
• But still Increase Risk of complications
1 . HYPOTONIA
• Hypotonia
"Acquiring motor milestones may take a little longer in hypotonic infants compared to infants
who have normal tone."

The study included 100 newborns, delivered to moms who had gestational diabetes (n = 50
women), type 2 diabetes (n = 40), and type 1 diabetes (n = 10) and who had been brought to
the neonatal intensive care unit.
Hypotonia among the newborns was seen in all three groups but was significantly more
common among infants of moms with type 1 diabetes (29% compared with 9% in those born
to moms with gestational diabetes and none in babies whose moms had type 2 diabetes; P = .
030).
