Project description

• My aim is to produce a live action short film

within the horror/thriller genre but with a
twist
After studying moving image arts for Alevel i have been
extremely interested in moving making
German expressionism

German Expressionist closely examines staging, cinematography and acting

The cabinet of Dr Calagari

• The cabinet of Dr calagari is a 1920s silent horror film

• This movie is seen as having introduced the twist ending into cinema

• Everybody's a sucker for a good twist ending, and no genre tries harder to throw
viewers for a loop than horror and suspense movies
Twist endings

• A twist ending is a plot twist occurring near the end of a story, an unexpected end to a work
of fiction that causes the audience to reevaluate the narrative or characters

• Everybody's a sucker for a good twist ending, and no genre tries harder to throw viewers for a
loop than horror and suspense movies
Shutter Island

This film had an element of mystery the whole way through and i couldn't help but
try and guess the ending.

It proved to be successful as i was surprised at the twist ending

Blair witch

• You either love it or you hate it but there is no denying that this is one
of the most chilling endings of a horror film ever. You never once see
the witch in this film but in this scene her presence is felt with
intensity.

• This movie breaks away from the continuity style of editing with a
shaky hand held camera.
Alfred Hitchcock referred to as the Master of Suspense

The Twist :- Norman bates was psycho. He killed his own mother and mimicked her while killing
his other victims.
Nosferatu

• Cinematography proves to be a key aspect in horror films

• Creating an eerie atmosphere

• The contrast between light and dark add to the horror element
The cabinet of Dr. calagari (Cinematography)

• This movie is set in black and white cinematography

• Lighting is used to cast shadows to create a dramatic effect
